After reading Tikiman's report on his stay at the Polynesian, and other reports Im just not sure what to do. Also the fact that the regular concierge will be down during the time we are there plays into my confusion.

We are planning a 20th anniversary trip for July 4-13 of 2003. Right now we have the LV Concierge booked at 470.00 a night plus tax. Im hoping that price will come way down.

I want this trip to be so special because it is our 20th.

Should I stay with the LV Concierge? Book another type of room and if yes what type? Should we put the trip off until the Concierge is back in the normal building?

This is a very expensive and special trip for us and I just want it to be as close to perfect as humanly possible. I have heard such good things about the staff and it seems that has changed also.

Im just not sure what to do. HELP!!! LOL

I have not stayed at the Poly. I did read the reports of Tikiman and others about July 4th at the Poly. He did say that in the past it wasn't so bad. They may have learned from their mistakes this year and fix them for next year. On the other hand, I haven't heard much info on where the concierge will be during rennovations. Maybe Tikiman has more on that. If this is going to make you worry, maybe you should look into another resort for the 4th? Try something new that will really make the trip memorable.:D Or, maybe you could postpone your trip until rennovations are finished and avoid the 4th altogether? OK, I've probably confused you even more!:) Whatever you decide, I'm sure the fact that you will be celebrating your 20th will make it one of the best trips ever.:bounce:

While I agree what happened to Tikiman on the 4th stunk, I would say dont change from the Poly. We stayed there on the 3rd, in a regular garden view room. We had a beautiful view of the pool, GF, lagoon, and even the castle if we stretched. The whole Poly experience was wonderful for us. We found it beautiful, the Kona was delicious for dinner and breakfast(again), and CMs were friendly. We even got a refrigerator in our room for no charge. We never requested it, it was just there. If I could afford it, I would stay there every trip, but for now, we are usually only able to afford 1 night at a time there.

If staying at the Poly is a dream then I think you should do it. Tikiman will surely be the first to tell you that. Time has a way of changing your view on things. Every trip is different and I do think that this 4th is very different from the previous years. I don't think they will be having any BIG celebration next year and we will be almost 2 years away from Sept. 11th. You don't have to go to park on the 4th and Disney will have some sort of a plan to avoid the mess that happened at the resort this year.

Well, Tikiman said that Tahiti would be the concierge while Hawaii is being renovated. The only difference there is that it's a bit further from the Grand Ceremonial House and the lounge would not have a view of the MK. As far as worrying about the mess on the 4th, Tahiti has been completely non-smoking while Hawaii has the 3rd floor smoking optional. The 3rd floor is the only floor in Hawaii that has balconies, so many people elect to request the 1st floor so that at least they get a patio. Now, even if they make the 3rd floor of Tahiti smoking while it is the concierge building, the building does have balconies on the 2nd floor as well. All this to say, request a room on a floor other than the 1st and you won't have to worry about the crowded beach on the 4th at all. The people won't take the chairs from your balcony, will they? ;)

Like the other poster said, if staying there for your 20th is a dream of yours then do it! We love the Polynesian and are headed back there this year.

So I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure you'll have a great trip. Just go with the expection that you're going to have a great time! And don't go in worrying that something will go wrong.

I say go for it! So you may run into the same kind of nonsense on the 4th as Tiki did. If you're prepared for the worst (c'mon, how bad can being at Disneyworld really be?) then you won't have your expectations dashed.

Anywhere at the Polynesian is fine. I personally think Disney's concierge service is overrated, but some really enjoy it. So if that is what would make your trip special, DO IT!

Have a great anniversary whatever you decide to do!

The view of the MK from the lounge is one of the reasons we love the Polynesian concierge. I think with the renovations next year, we may opt for a regular room :)

We're in the middle of the same debate. Next year, we planned to stay at BCV for a week up to the 3rd of July. Then we thought we would move to Poly concierge. It is my 40th birthday and I want to celebrate in total "Disney" style. We celebrated DH's 40th at the Poly and I really thought it would be fun to "continue the tradition." Now we're wondering if we should just stay at the villas.

I know I wasn't any help in your decision, but at least you're not alone!! :D

The concierge staff and managment seem very concerned with making next years concierge move go smoothly and will do everything to make the guests happy. I think it will work out fine and you will have the best of both worlds. You will be in the best longhouse at the Polynesian and have the services of the concierge. I would also say go for the lagoon view. You will not be sorry. The Tahiti longhouse is what got me hooked on the lagoon view. Even with how the 4th went I was not sorry I was there.

Aloha

Steve

I would go ! Maybe even send in a letter telling them what happend last 4th of July and hopes of it not to happen again. You never know whose hand it might get into. Go, and have a great 20th !

We just returned from a July 4th-7th stay at Polynesian LV Concierge and it was absolutely incredible! We were in room 3514 and had an unobstructed view. We watched the fireworks from our balcony and if I hadn't read the other posts, I never would have known about the problems on the 4th! We moved over to AKL from the 7th -13th and although the resort is magnificent, we missed the Polynesian and our amazing view!

Go and have a great time! We were there on the 4th in a LV Concierge room and will be there again next year!! Laurie :D

Thank you Tikiman and everyone!! I am feeling much better about this trip than I was. I had a hard time getting it booked and then I read some not nice things about the resort and got concerned. This trip is a dream of ours and I just want it to be magical. I've never stayed at the Poly but have visited for dinner. We found the staff to be extra nice. We are testing the waters so to speak in August and staying in a GV room for two nights. Its a combo check out what it's like to stay there visit and a birthday present for dh and I. I will be turning 40 three days after we return.

LOL to answer how bad can a disney world resort be.....We had a really bad experience at the Contemporary at Easter so much so that I wrote a letter and was contacted by the executive offices about it. This was our first experience with a deluxe and why Im so leery about booking another deluxe.
