Poly - Do they have kettles???

I think Captain Cook's has a microwave, which I know is not supposed to be used for bottles because of uneven heating (or am I dreaming that....sorry, the "baby" here is almost 10). I don't think you will have access to a stove anywhere.

My ds6 took his first trip to Disney at 6 months. I took dish soap and washed his bottles in the sink at night and they were ready for the next day. I filled them with water before we left for the parks and then I just needed to add the powdered formula.

I know folks who
. . . use the microwave to boil water
. . . then use the water to heat or clean the bottle in the room

Oh, never use the microwave to boil water. You can easily superheat it and get badly burned.

Fill your sink with hot water, put the bottle in the sink in the hot water and it will warm up to a good temperature. You could use bottled water for the baby bottle if you didn't want to use tap water to make the formula.

And get disposable liners so you don't have to worry about washing out bottles.

I can tell you as a fellow Brit that you will not find kettles in any Disney hotels (and probably not any other US hotels either) most Americans use a kettle on a hob rather than an electric kettle. In the past we have taken a travel kettle for the all important tea but it took forever to boil, last year we ordered a kettle from Amazon.com for about $24 and had it delivered to our resort in time for our arrival, saved packing a huge kettle and much more convenient for the baby's bottles than having to trek to Captain Cooks!

Americans generally don't use kettles at all - the hot beverage of choice here is usually coffee. You might find a coffee maker but no other apparatus that can heat water.

I would suppose it's possible to use the coffee maker to boil water - but I can't vouch for the cleanliness of the coffee makers in the rooms.

My niece and nephews drank from disposable bottles (the kind with the bag inside), I don't know if most parents here use those or not - if they do, it's not likely there will be a facility in the hotel for cleaning glass bottles.

I also know they don't allow glass containers into the parks but I have no idea if that applies to baby bottles. I think they allow baby food so it probably doesn't.

I agree with Nixieh.

If you're getting a rental car I would pop into a Walmart or Target type store and buy a electric kettle. If you bring your own you'll run into the 120/240 problem. (American do use electric ones too!) You should be able to get one cheap.

Your other option is to order on line and ship to the hotel which will also work fine. Just use your charge card.

It will be worth the money for the convenience....and bring some tea bags and you can have tea in your room. Don't know about at WDW but my mom whose Scottish is aways complaining about not getting a decent cup of tea unless she makes it herself. :rolleyes1

The Poly has a limited amount of microwaves that guests can request for their rooms. You can always heat/boil a larger container full of water in the micro and then let the bottle come to the right temperature in it -- that way no worries about hot spots in the actual bottle. :)

If there's already a coffee maker in the room, I would just run the water through there and into the pot (don't use any coffee). I've done this lots of times to make tea in a hotel room. Sometimes the water comes out tasting like coffee, but if you're just going to use it to heat a bottle, it shouldn't be a problem.

Are you wanting it to put in the bottle (like to mix formula) or to clean the bottles?

If it's the former, you could buy some distilled water in one-gallon jugs. I wonder if that Hess gas station on property has that?

Or maybe you can use one of those grocery services and have them drop off pre-made formula in a can. Gardengrocer.com has it for just a little more than what I normally pay at home. Plus it would be so easy - no need to buy water, worry about boiling anything, or keep the bottles cold while you are in the parks.

If it's the latter and you need to sterilize the bottles, buy these to clean your bottle parts. They are wonderful and all you need is a microwave for 90 seconds!

thanks everyone!! - I should have explained!! ;) - I am bringing powder sachets of baby milk which is then mixed with the water, so I guess my best bet is to either order a kettle to arrive at the resort or buy one when I arrive!

thanks everyone for their advice!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Speak for yourself. I use a kettle all the time for tea (and I'm a coffee drinker, too).

Oh how I agree with your mother! My Wal-Mart bought full-size electric kettle has made many trips to and fro across the Atlantic but this time I am going to subscribe to Owner's Locker so at last I can leave a load of stuff out there :cool1: Kettle, Typhoo tea and maybe even china cups and saucers too :thumbsup2

To the OP, we also have a small travel kettle with dual voltage purchased in Argos (I think). If you need one as soon as you arrive, you might be as well getting one here in the UK, plus an adaptor so you are prepared immediately :)

thanks ever so much - someone said travel kettles are slow - so are these ones any good?? I must admit I am a worrier (and even though I know its not necessary to worry I would sooner buy it here and know I've got it than to worry that I might not be able to get it straight away over there) - stupid I know!!!:thumbsup2

My kids are older now, but when they were little I remember warming bottles in the Baby Care Centers in all the parks. I assume they still allow this. As for warming them in your room we would just run up a sink full of hot water and let it float in there. Or we'd microwave a cup of water and float the bottle in that. I would never put a bottle in the microwave directly.

I would just get a couple of gallons of bottle water, then you don't have to worry about tummy upset from water your not used to. My kids always seemd to get a bad tummy when we traveled and we relized it was the change in the water. Besides Orlando water tastes horrible and no amount of boiling will get rid of the bad taste. Bottle water will be fresh and clean and easy to add the powder formula to it. Run the tap water hot to warm up the bottle or start getting your baby to accept room temp formula.
Make sure and bring some dish soap to wash out your bottles since I am not sure you will find any or order a very small bottle with your water. I have used garden grocer or wegoshop and was very happy with the service and the prices.
