Hey all,

Debating the two resorts and I have a question in regards to the food offered......are all the concierge food offerings the same? Will I find basically the same at CR that I've had at the Poly?

Thanks!

The only noticable difference is that the evening appetizers are different between the two. The appetizers at the CR are from the CG while the Polynesian appetizers are cooked in the lounge kitchen area and have more of a Pacific Rim flare to them. Both are equally good and in the same numbers of variety and quantity.

Breakfast and afternoon offerings as well as evening are the same in both. You might find a minor difference here and there--popcorn instead of pretzels, chocolate chip cookies instead of sugar cookies, but there's nothing in either lounges offerings menu that makes one better than the other IMHO.

Have a gret trip whichever you decide.

The offerings were a little different in the mornings. The CR had Krispy Kreme donuts while the Poly had their Pineapple bread.

I liked the CR concierge offerings a bit better than the Poly but I like the location of the Poly better. If I were to do concierge again I think I would do the Poly but I'm very happy that I tried the CR. I also wasn't happy that you can not book a Magic Kingdom view room at the CR. The view from the lounge was nice but I felt better being able to decide if I wanted to pay the extra for Lagoon view at the Poly.

I really enjoy Epcot and found that the convenience of walking to the TTC for the direct Epcot monorail out weighed the convenience of walking the the MK for me.

I also liked the Poly rooms better. The CR rooms are VERY nice but I do like to unpack while on vacation and the CR has far less storage.

That's a major dealbreaker for me. I want to be able to guarantee my view, and you can't do that at the CR CL--with a few exceptions on the 14th floor.

As it has already been said both lounges are different in terms of the food offerings at 5:00 PM and it's true that the major differences for breakfast is the Contemporary offers the Krispy Kreme donuts, where as the Poly offers the Pineapple bread. Plus some of the afternoon snacks offered at the Contemporary were the cupcakes with Mickey's face, Rice Krispy Squares and at the Poly they offered chips with salsa and pop corn. Both of them did serve cookies.

In terms of location the Contemporary gives you the chance to walk to the Magic Kingdom and is the 1st stop on the Monorail when leaving the Magic Kingdom, where as the Poly you can walk to the TTC which is a huge plus when going to Epcot. So both have their major pros to them.

Finally the food at the Contemporary serves at 5:00 PM does not come from the California Grill, it comes from the Concourse Steakhouse. I know that information is correct because we asked several Cast Members on the Atrium Club and they all confirmed it. They also said it is the exact same way on the 14ht floor lounge. In the past when the Tower Club was the only floor to serve food at 5:00 PM, at that time their food came from the Califorina Grill.

I forgot to mention this so I am not sure if this info would help the OP or not? The food served in the Hawaii lounge from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM comes from Kona Cafe. Some of the items they put out like the Sticky Wings, Kona Salad, Pot Stickers and Pan Asian Noodles all come from the menu of the Kona Cafe. So that is how you know where their food comes from.

In the past when the Tower Club was the only floor to serve food at 5:00 PM, at that time their food came from the Calforina Grill.

That's a shame. The food from the California Grill is excellent, the food from the steakhouse is average at best. That gives the Polynesian a definite leg up in terms of evening appetizers.

I agree with you that the food they use to serve from the California Grill was more upscale and etc, however I personally have no problems with the food they use from the Concourse Steakhouse because some of their items are very good.

Does that mean that if you pref 14th floor that you can get a MK view or is that only for suites?

I am thinking of staying CR and I really want MK view and I would also like concierge. What are the chances of getting a MK view if you pref it if you do concierge during the second week of Dec 2008?

I would love for someone to tell me "just pref MK view and there is a 99% chance you will get it."

Yes it's true that the suites on the 14th floor are the only rooms where you can make a reservation for a Magic Kingdom view.

As for the chances of getting a Magic Kingdom view room on the 12th floor in Dec 2008 it's 50/50, so you all you can do is make a request and hope it works out.

If it helps in the past when my family and I have stayed on the 12th floor we have never made the request for the Magic Kingdom view and we have always been given that view. I know we have been lucky since that has happened for us, but it just shows anything is possible even without making a request. Then again we don't mind if we were given the Bay Lake view. Plus we know that we could see it anytime from the lounge and yes I know there is a difference in having a Magic Kingdom view full time and only seeing it from the lounge part time.

It's been a few years since I stayed concierge, but the food offerings weren't any better or worse in any of them. By and large, they were the same. The dinner stuff may have been different - I don't know. Who memorizes all the dinner offerings in all the different hotels? Besides, if you hit the parks early, take a mid-day break and go back, you miss the dinner stuff entirely. They're serving it while you're in the park. All I remember is the Stouffer's mac n cheese.

For breakfast, you get your little boxes of cereal, muffins, juices, maybe bagels. I think I remember passing on a bagel. The snack stuff was generic popcorn in little silver bags, gummy worms and cookies that tasted okay but didn't make you want more. You can grab yourself much better snacks (and Pepsi products, if you prefer those) at a grocery store for a lot less that $100 a day, that's for sure.

When I did stay club level, I have to say that the Contemporary was - hands down - the worst of the bunch. Boardwalk was second worst.

It may be different now. I gave up on club level several years back. The only thing I miss is having packages delivered to my room and the Times Guides for each park being in or near the club level lounge - but some hotels didn't bother with having Times Guides for each park, so can't even say I'm missing that.

Here's the Menu for the 5-7 service at the Poly. Every night they also have a cut veggie tray, cheeses, and pinapple with caramel :thumbsup2
