POLL!!! Would YOU pay to go to a DRIVE IN movie theater?

Would YOU pay to go to a DRIVE IN movie theater?

  • I would be there very often. Nothing else to do in my town.

  • I might go occasionally for the fun of it.

  • I might go once just for memories, but not again.

  • I wouldn't go at all. Too outdated.

We were driving through a strange town the other day and we spotted an old drive in movie theater. It was still standing there, but looking a bit grown over with weeds and such. It looked so cool. Like a giant icon of years gone by. We got to talking about it and I said that the old drive in movie days were a distant memory of mine as a little kid. I think it would be totally cool to go to one now. I'd prefer it NOT to be updated to new standards or definition, but EXACTLY like they were 30 years ago before they started dying off. Even with the occasional hair or bug on the picture!!!
It would have to have a couple big swing sets up front where the children could swing while watching the movie. Just like the one I remember as a child.

So what do you think???

It would depend on how bad the mosquitos were, cause the windows would have to be open to avoid them fogging up ;)

My hometown had them until recently (in fact I think there is still one near where my brother lives), so it wouldn't be much of a novelty for me. The quality of the film and the audio is always bad, and the bathrooms are always dirty. I'll wait for dvd.

I love our local drive in. We don't go that often but it is very popular and very busy. It is done very nice and maintained very well. It is about half hour from a major city so it gets a lot of draw from families. It definatley kept it's original form.

I always felt it was very disney like. Like the sci fi diner. Surprisingly I learned that it was bought by an ex disney manager. So it made sense the ambiance and staging is done so well.

We had many within a short distance when we lived in Ohio. There is one close to where we live now. We go once or twice a year. Its fun.

Yes. We have one up in Scranton that I like to visit each summer. We watch one movie every summer at the drive in, it's tradition. Only one because the sound stinks. ;)

Yes, they do charge. I really don't care - it's more about the ambience than the movie for me.

Most of the ones I've been too, have a radio setting to tune into, so the sound is great.

We have 3 within an hours drive. 2 are about 15 minutes from each other. We try to go several times during the summer. One has two screens and you can switch between movies if you want to see one movie on the 1st screen and the other movie on the 2nd screen. It's a cheap date! Plus you get to be a teenager again.

I love drive-ins. Haven't been to one in years though. The sound quality may not be all that great but then I can control the volume so it doesn't make my ears bleed either. I'm also sure for ones that are still around the sound quality must have improved.

I also wouldn't have to listen to other people who can't stay quiet, or stop getting calls, or stop texting...etc. etc. :thumbsup2

I didn't answer the poll because we have plenty to do in our town but we love our drive in.

We go a few times in the summer usually with another carload of family or friends. It is about 45 min. away but we get to see 2 movies for $20 a carload and we bring our own food. The adults bring wine or beer not allowed but not discouraged either, if you are discreet. We get there sometimes 1.5 hrs early to tail gate and get a good spot.

We have been twice this summer and trying to find time to go again but it seems we always have something the next day and the movies end late.

We have a little but very nice portable radio with the bass and we use that for our movie sound as well as our surround sound in our car. Its not as good as the movie theatre but its still good and its a lot of fun. I miss the same amount of movie going to on in the theatre as I do at the drive-in due to the kids, not the sound quality.

yes, we go often! - and we have plenty of other things to do around here as well.:)

$6 per adult and $4 per child under 12 -for a triple feature of first runs. They have a very nice concession stand with good food and great popcorn!

:wizard:

We DO go a couple of times every summer. Nothing yells summer like squallin' kids at the drive in!!

I can't even bring myself to vote I'm so undecided. It sounds fun, but we always end up being so tired because the movies start so late that we are miserable. We have one nearby, the last time we went was a double feature of Ratatoulie (sp?) and Pirates of the Carribean. It was after midnight before they started POC and we didn't get home until almost 4 in the morning!

It's getting dark a little earlier now so maybe I should check and see what's showing before they close for the season!

We love our drive in go once or twice a year when the have a kids double feature. The kids would go every week if they could. Love eating outside and not havoing to be so quiet. This year we made it to up hoping for one more. I might live near the Pa poster as I live between two drive in's. I grew up on RI-Ma border where there is still one operating. Saw my first film Pinochio there with my grandma. I was four and still remeber the whole day out. So I might have been a neighbor of Ma poster too. It truely is" a small world after all"

Like many on here, I needed an option for "we still have a drive in and I go several times a summer." It's a cheap way to see several movies and more social then the theater. I hope ours never goes away, so I always go in to buy something at the concession stand to keep them going!

We go probably once a month or so. We'd go more often if the movies linesd up the right way so there was more stuff playing that we wanted to see. The drive-ins here have 2 screens. Each screen will show 2 movies, so there are 4 different movies playing that night. Screen A could be showing GI Joe and G force, while screen 2 could be showing The proposal and The orphan. Whenever one of the screens is showing 2 movies that we want to see, we go. Its fun and its CHEAP at $4 per person! Ours is very clean. Ours don't have speakers so you bring your own, either a boombox or a small am/fm radio with headphones so the sound quality id always great. We don't sit in our cars at ours. You park and then you set up your chairs in front of your car. Since we're not in the car everyone always has a great view. No trying to look through the windshield, past headrests etc. It has a great snack bar too where the food is as inexpensive in price as the admittance fee! A burger, fries, and a milkshake for about $5!

we used to go to a multi screen near Rochester, NY. Three screens and they would let you switch for the second movie. They weren't supposedto encourage it - I guess for "box office" tallys, but there were no barriers, so they didn't stop you either. I loved that, having the pick of 6 movies!!!

Ours has the original speakers in the first couple rows, but also broadcasts over the radio too.
