Poll: Who has/had a "reluctant spouse" (about DVC and/or WDW, that is!)?

Just wanted to see how many folks out there had a reluctant spouse who they had to convince to join DVC, and who may or may not be continuing to be reluctant about the whole WDW thing??

I bet we have enough on this board to start a "spouse of a reluctant spouse" support group!!!

Woops, I voted incorrectly... oh well, just to clarify, I had a "reluctant wife", but I finally convinced her about DVC (actually, convince is too strong a word - she reluctantly agreed to go along with me on DVC). In spite of several trips since (and many before) she is still somewhat reluctant about WDW. Not that she doesn't have fun, but she is definitely a "WDW every other year or longer" kind of person. My daughter (7) and I balance her out by being true blue disney nuts!!

Heard about a Disney Time share in February 2001. I was the reluctant one because of the "TIMESHARE". After our trip I found this Board and started LURKING. I believe this board convinced me that it was a good deal so we purchased on the pre-sale at BCV's and have not had a moments regret.

There wasn't really a category for what my husband is, but I voted "was reluctant about DVC, still unsure of WDW".

See, the issue is he was the one who was pushing me to buy into DVC in 2000 during our first trip to WDW, and I didn't want to do it. So I gave in later that day because I knew if I wanted to vacation every year this was the only way we'd be able to do it. Don't get me wrong, I'm a die-hard Disney fan from my toddler years, I was concerned about the value for the $$.

Now, he never wants to go to WDW! I'm still baffled by this. He bought the time share, but doesn't want to go to WDW? All I can figure is he must have fell and bumped his head when I wasn't looking or aliens invaded his body because I don't see how someone would buy in DVC and not want to go to WDW! Now c'mon-who in their right mind would not want to go to WDW?

My DS (4) and I went alone in February (which was supposed to be a family trip), and we (or should I say I) am planning a family trip in October, and he's dreading it. My DS and I are the big fans, and I'm happy that we can go every year because of DVC.

If only my husband would be the die-hard fanatic that I am!

My DH was reluctant regarding DVC and WDW. After 3 years of DVC ownership, he actually initiated a trip for Oct. for the F&W fest and just got his first AP!!

Took a lot of talking (months!), but he finally saw the light and decided DVC was right for me--Oh--I mean US!

I was so opposed to joining DVC in 1992 when we toured OKW! Yes, I must have been brain dead, because I could kick myself now. I don't know what happened, I just walked up to BWV in 1997 and asked the guy at the podium, "where do I pay my money?" Hey, maybe it was the two glasses of wine at dinner, or all the food at Cape May that I ate. I don't know--DH was shocked, we hadn't even discussed going to BWV, and certainly not buying in, although he kept bugging me at home! Now we have 700 pts, and we go several times a year to golf, sunbathe, and relax. We don't even go to the parks very often. It's just SOOOO relaxing!

I must say that I was as reluctant at first about the whole value of DVC...and we go for at least 5 - 10 day trips several times a year!

After some serious calculating, I am totally convinced it is the way to go. Also, I have been reading the boards for a short while and I must say that everyone here is so great at helping and made it easier to make the decision.

My DH and I officially gave our deposit about 30 minutes ago! WhooHoo!

Saratoga Springs....here we come!

Not a category for my DH either - not a WDW lover at all - hates crowds, heat, and noise/too much stimulation - but all that said, he had no hesitation about joining DVC - he's seen the writing on the wall ! -and knows how much the rest of the family loves our WDW vacations - and he does enjoy staying at the deluxe resorts (can't wait to get him into the 2 BR!). He comes down every few years when we schedule a short, off season, relaxed trip and, under those circumstances, he always has fun, too

My husband is okay with WDW. As I've mentioned, we've discussed DVC since 1997-- when we first took our dd then 3 to WDW. He would always nudge me along when we saw the DVC kiosks and if I mentioned it would just cover his ears or say, "Like we have money for that. We're not coming here that often". Well, we've been twice since 2001, and will be back this fall, then next, etc. We stayed at WL in 2001 and CR last year so he got a taste for the deluxe hotels.

So I voted reluctant but converted, since he's completely satisfied with our recent decision, and I was ready to call up our guide and say "forget it" after we finally put our money down a few weeks ago.

My DH let me research and decide myself whether or not to join. He didn't care either way. I am a WDW fanatic for life so my decision was not hard. He may, however, fall into the "reluctant spouse" category when I mention buying more points sometime in the near future!

DH has always been "Disney-tolerant", he wouldn't plan to go to WDW, but went with me occassionally. His attitude about DVC was "whatever you want to do is fine with me"-he knew better than to fight my obsession. Well, last week we were actually discussing vacations (something he's recently learned to do) and I almost fell over in shock when he said these words-"We'll go to OKW next spring if we have to drive all the way-but I'm not hooked or anything!" Yes, he's a whole new person-should I wonder if DVC has some kind of Stepford thing going on for DHs like mine?

My goodness, it's like StevieD and I are the same person here! LOL

My DW definitely was 'reluctant'....to say the least....in actually buying into DVC. Now that we are members, I'm hoping that our first trip "home" will win her over. I mean, if a 1BR @ OKW doesn't do it...nothin' will!

I had a coworker who was a DVC member so I knew what it was all about and how great it was. My DH had looked at the stuff on our several previous stays when the DVC booths were there. He was hesitant about DVC but not WDW because we love Mickey. I finally got him to take the tour two years ago and he was a willing participant but still leery about what we had gotten ourselves into. All it took was our first trip home last year and he was hooked. Of course then I heard -- honey, I told you we should have done this several years ago!! LOL Figure that one out.
