Which one are you and why? Do you think you'll ever change teams?

Team Direct: Only direct contracts and/or unrestricted resale contracts in my membership* - I'm a true blue blood, I want every possible perk & choice all the time
Team Resale: Only restricted resale contracts in my membership - A fatter bankbook is better than a cheesy blue card and a few extra resort choices
Team Hybrid: I have a mix of both restricted resale & direct in my membership - I'm the best of both worlds, I can do most everything, and still saved a little dough

*For the purposes of this poll, let's assume resale contracts that are not restricted count as direct. I think that's fair since there's essentially no difference, right?

Currently only direct, but we just passed ROFR on our first resale (restricted) contracts.

There are only two scenarios I see us buying direct (and it may require both).
  • New resort that absolutely wows us. Perhaps more critical that we think we will only be able to book our preferred room type(s) for our preferred travel seasons.
  • Incentives. For example, we were very close to this summer's incentives.

Our first contract was long before any restrictions were placed on resale. We've been grandfathered obviously .So for that reason I'm team resale.
That sounds to me then like you're team direct:

You can change your response if so.

I have direct, unrestricted resale and then resale RIV. So, I am team hybrid.

BRIV resale is the only one I’d ever buy if I did buy resale again. But the plan is all future purchases will be direct.

Both of our purchases were pre-opening, so no resale market for our desired home resorts at that time.

Hybrid because I think I have some restrictions on a BLT resale from long ago.

I'd imagine there'd be a lot of hybrids. It would be interesting to see what level of hybrid we're talking. Less than 20% of my points are direct (enough for blue card minimum), although we may be trending in the direction of selling off some resale for more direct (want the ability to book more RIV like @Sandisw!). I imagine most hybrids are similar.

I own resale and direct.

Started with 100pts SAP to see where we really wanted to stay. Decided I absolutely love MK resorts, with VGF being my favorite. We added a small contract when BPK became available.
Added another 150 at VGF when the summer incentives for to be too good to resist.

I don’t think there is anyway I can ever convince DH we need more than the 310 points we have, but if I can I’d buy direct again for the right price/resort. Probably won’t buy resale unless there is a resort I want to stay at most of the time. Right now, that would be Copper Creek. I wish I had money to buy resale there as the prices are pretty good right now. Unfortunately, my DVC fund is empty. Copper Creek feels like home when I pull up. Thankfully, we tend to book 1 bedrooms and have been able to grab one there when needed.

I'm team direct, I don't trust Disney not to change the rules whenever they feel like it which generally would effect resale purchases.

I’m a direct owner at SSR but that’s because I didn’t know about resale at the time and bought in 2005. Would’ve saved a ton via resale!

Since VDH has restrictions - I’m a west coaster and would go there more often that WDW - I bought direct and want to pass it on to my son.

I would be team hybrid - I would love to buy VGC resale since I didn’t even have any interest when it was available direct and didn’t have a child at the time - he’s now turning 5. What a missed opportunity to get the only SoCal DVC at the time!

I do like the blue card perks - the DVC member cruises are expensive but such a great experience.

Currently only have one resale contract, but planning on buying direct next year probably. So team hybrid for me. Don't really care about perks, but don't like being locked out of future resorts since we like to vary where we stay and try new resorts.

Plus it bothers DW more than we thought it would not being a "full member". It bothers me a little as well I'll admit. The FOMO is real, my friends.

Hoping for some good incentives when Poly2 goes on sale so we can join team hybrid officially. 🤞

Purchased a DVC (230 pt) contract back in 1992 so there really wasn't any other way than (blue card) direct and DVC was OKW or should I say OKW was DVC.:confused3 Very happy because I paid even less than resale back then. I've stayed at every resort I've wanted to, so no regrets.

Hybrid as of this year. I had unrestricted resale since 2008. But this year bought resale & direct, needed more pts for grandkids trips

Yes, but they can change the rules for direct as well. (i.e. the covid era borrowing restriction applied to both). Restrictions OTOH are baked into the cake that you buy at the point when you pick direct or resale. Granted we don't know fully how it will play out over the long haul.
