We moved our reservations from January to October. We wanted early seating but got late. How many of you have changed successfully? Comments, please, as to whether you were able to do it before embarking or were able to do so only upon boarding and doing the ressie rush. Thanks!

Carla

from what i take its easy to go from early to late but since more like early it fills up fast and gets a waiting list that is long in most cases

We were assigned late seating last November and couldn't get it changed before the cruise. We arrived at the terminal early and were among the first 50 or so to board. We went to the designated lounge and got changed to Early seating with no problem. But - November is the low period and we were on board very early. Hope you have the same luck.

Two out of four cruises we were not able to change from late to early seating. One cruise we got lucky and were able to change from late to early and the other cruise, we booked far enough in advance that we were able to get early seating from the start.

On the one cruise we were able to change, I just kept calling Disney on a daily basis and got lucky!

We were able to change before our cruise but we had an unusual situation. We were confirmed for early seating when we made our reservation but when the documents came they had late seating on them. After a few phone calls to DCL and our TA, and DCL sending some emails back and forth with the dining manager on the Wonder, we were able to get back to early seating. This went on for about a week before they were able to fix it. The strange part was that the early seating didn't seem full at all when we went!

On both of our previous cruises we were able to change from late to early without a problem. We had 2 families with a total of 9 people at our table. I would love to do late seating but our children are too young so we just do the 5 pm rush to get ready for dinner.

I've done this several times, since I tend to book only a few months in advance, and early seating is often full. In addition to the waitlist, I call every few days to check for openings. They only consult the list once a day, so if something opens up and yo ask for it, you'll get it. This strategy was first suggested to me by a DCL reservations rep, along with the tip about the waitlist. On that cruise, I was trying to move from a category 7 room to a category 5, and was able to do that, as well. During the week just prior to when final payment is due, call every day. This is when most of the openings show up. I've never had to wait until I got on board to make the change.

We booked our Sept cruise about a month ago. The TA said only late seating was available & she would waitlist us for early. About 2 weeks after initial booking I called her to check on something else. At that point she had to call DCL so I asked her to check with them about early seating. She came back saying we had been assigned to early seating afterall (traveling with 3yr old DD). I also had her request a small table & they arranged that as well. That's one less thing to think about once we get on board!::yes::
