As I heard it originally, this is all because they have a small plot of land behind the ToT at DCA where they could put a Marvel Comics land. Originally, they were going to build some kind of Marvel coaster, but now, to save money, they want to retheme the ToT. ToT would loom over the land as it is and they want it to be the gateway. I have heard that the plans for a coaster have been scrapped though.

Anyway. the execs really wanted to do this in Anaheim, but the Orlando execs are saying absolutely not because they do not want to spend the money and they simply cannot take ToT offline while DHS is under so much major construction (even the suggestion to run at half-capacity and convert one shaft at a time was shot down). This led to the suggestion of a permanent change at DCA, but just an overlay at DHS, but still there is resistance. Orlando does not really do overlays and see no benefit in this one.

Most recent rumors seem to point to the DHS ToT being pretty safe (thank goodness!). The fact that they are putting in a themed bar in the attraction is a good sign. DCA is up for debate still, though I really hope they leave it alone too.

Save the Tower!

I don't think the fact that some children might be scared is a good reason to ruin an imagineering masterpiece. Disney World caters to many demographics, not just young kids, and it is fine to have a ride that older kids/adults might enjoy without them. There are also smaller kids who enjoy the ride, like my oldest DS, who rode it for the first time at 3 years old and just LOVED it. There are lots of small kids who are afraid of the characters, that doesn't mean we should eliminate them from the park. Not every ride/experience is for everyone, and that is perfectly fine.

Context is easily lost on these threads when we're quoting back and forth. My point wasn't that it is a good reason to change the ride. I just said that it wouldn't necessarily be all bad and that I PERSONALLY wouldn't be sad. On my original post, I even acknowledged that I am aware that many people would be sad.

I'm so done with Super Hero Movies etc.. I would hate to see something as iconic as ToT theming turned into this fad. Plus it's the theming that makes the ride, similar to how splash mountain theming is more important than the flume drop.

Would basing ToT theming on the superhero movie fad be any worse than Splash Mountain being based on a film that you can only see on old VHS tapes or bootlegged?

While I don't like the idea of changing this, word is they're planning more Marvel attractions at DCA, so this would fit in.

Perhaps not. In truth I don't know a lot about the Twilight Zone either. I'm just tired of superheroes, and I like cartoon bears!

No, no, no to changing the theme on Disney World's TOT!!

That being said, I LOVE Guardians of the Galaxy and reallllly hope they do something with that theme somewhere in DW! DH and I were just saying the other night that we are surprised that they didn't capitalize on the popularity of that movie and do SOMETHING with Marvel characters they can actually use in the Florida parks. I would be beside myself with excitement if there was a Groot meet and I would bet a Chris Pratt look alike for a Star-Lord meet would be pretty popular with the ladies. :hyper:

Kinda sorta, but the point of rides to me is rides. If this opens the ride up to allow more children between 4 and whatever age they can distinguish real from fiction and not be creeped to the point of nightmares, then in my opinion that's overall a good thing for families.

Some kids are creeped out on HM.

ToT isn't labeled as a family ride in the first place it's a thrill ride. Disney does a wonderful job of appealing to everyone in a family. ToT is unique and wouldn't need a modernized superhero touch to keep it running.

Even as adults, who can distinguish between real and fiction, they can still get scared from movies and have nightmares. My point is this, if the family knows their child will get creeped out don't force them to ride.

Right you are totally on the same coin as me; just the opposite. If children will be creeped, they shouldn't ride. If it's not creepy, then children can ride it. I think it's a good thing for a lot of families to be able to ride the ride as a family, rather than have to skip or go through the line separately taking twice as long b/c your 5 year old is tall enough but would still get scared so you can't get rider swap....

Overall, it's a poll of would you be happy if they changed the theme. I would be happy so I voted yes and even offered my explanation.

I understand why many people would vote "no" but it doesn't change that I WOULD be elated if they changed the ride.

Disney should take note of the results of this poll. 90%!! I'd say that's an overwhelming majority who dislike this idea. Personally, I loathe it. Why inflict this on one of my favorite rides?? I didn't even like the movie that much. It was a kiddie superhero flick.

I would be devastated if they changed the TOT at hollywood studios

Dont get me wrong i love Guardians Of The Galaxy but they dont need to do anything to one if not the best ride they have got

Its like when they changed Alien Encounter to Stich's lame ride that is boring as hell

You know what I'd much rather see: Rock n Roller Coaster re-themed to Guardians of the Galaxy. Nothing against Aerosmith but I feel like that would be a much better use of the property. It has it's own dedicated area in DHS that could be given the Marvel makeover and I'd much rather ride a GotG coaster than a GotG elevator drop when the Twilight Zone theme might be the best fit to any ride in all of Disneyworld.

I totally agree! Rock n Roller Coaster seems to set up much more naturally to a superhero theme than does Tower of Terror. I'm sure you'd also get a lot less outrage as Tower of Terror is much more a park Icon than RnRC.

I don't like the TZ shows and never have, but I LOVE the ToT ride. In my opinion, the themeing is the best in all of the parks. My favorite part of DHS is the old Hollywood theme in the front of the park. I love SW and look forward to SW Land, but please, please, please, if Marvel must be included do it someplace else and leave my much loved ToT alone.

I think this is spot on. I'm not saying that I necessarily want Rock n Roller Coaster changed, but if they absolutely insist on changing anything, that'd be my first choice. Tower of Terror is absolutely perfect. It and Everest are the two best themed rides in all of the parks, in my opinion, and don't need any tweaking. There is so much more to Tower than just dropping. From the moment you turn onto Sunset Blvd, you start to get sucked into the story. When you enter the gates, the bellhop greets, you, and the creepy music starts, you are absolutely hooked and are truly part of the "story". Rock n Roller Coaster, on the other hand, while fun, isn't quite as iconic as far as the theme goes. It's fun to hear the music while in line and the preshow is cute enough, but a change to those things wouldn't run the risk of completely changing the entire fell and thrill of the ride. Plus, while I love Aerosmith, I'm not sure the theme will continue to work a decade or two from now. Twilight Zone is absolutely iconic and the fact that the hotel is vintage just adds to it. The theme of attending an Aerosmith concert isn't the same. It's hard to put into words what I mean, but I'm just not sure that the theme has the lasting power that Tower of Terror with Twilight Zone does.

Whatever happens, can we all agree that if they insist on changing either of those rides, it absolutely positively must wait until after all of the other construction is completed?

Sorry if this has been asked or brought up, but I thought GOTG was Marvel? Doesn't Universal still hold the only rights to have them in their parks in that geographic area? Or does this only apply to more traditional Marvel characters? Or is GOTG not Marvel?

Sorry- a bunch of stupid questions rolled into a few messy sentences :)

(This is in regard to the rumor for it to move to HS... I know it won't apply to DCA)
Don't feel bad..... I don't understand the whole "who owns the rights to Marvel?" question either!!!!!! So ridiculously complicated. Just one of the ways Disney keeps trying to make more money off of characters kids like! ugh!!!!

Prefer the current Theming but I don't really have any strong feelings against changing it to Guardians of the Galaxy. I do see the business reasons to theme the ride towards current IP as opposed to old IP that isn't yours anyway. As long as they do a good job with it I'll still enjoy the ride. I have never seen Guardians of the Galaxy but it has been decades since I saw any Twilight Zone.

I would be disappointed if they changed the ride, totally... but at the same time, I think it could use some upgrading. It might be cool, in the end. I wish they would just build a new ride, but I guess it's cheaper to refinish an old one.
