Do You Like The Idea?

From "MiceChat" earlier this week. [Pertains to DCA, but it looks as if this will be Florida's fate as well].

"Elsewhere in DCA, a wild rumor got out earlier this spring about a plan to remake Tower of Terror into a Guardians of the Galaxy ride. We can tell you that the Guardians of the Galaxy rumor is true, and TDA’s executive suite was furious when the rumor leaked out from Glendale-based sources. The plan is for the original Twilight Zone backstory to be removed entirely, and replaced with an all new show based around the Collector character from the Guardians movie franchise."

I'm confused; is the new overlay for just DCA? Or is it also for DHS? Did they say anything about WDW?

TOT is the best cue of any theme park ride I've ever been on. It would be a shame for it to go away. GOG was a cute movie, but certainly didn't strike me as an iconic film that anybody will remember 10 years from now. But then again, I may be crazy because I thought the same thing about Avatar.

You know what I'd much rather see: Rock n Roller Coaster re-themed to Guardians of the Galaxy. Nothing against Aerosmith but I feel like that would be a much better use of the property. It has it's own dedicated area in DHS that could be given the Marvel makeover and I'd much rather ride a GotG coaster than a GotG elevator drop when the Twilight Zone theme might be the best fit to any ride in all of Disneyworld.

This! The memory of Rod Serling is perfectly preserved with TOT. Aerosmith? They are lucky to still be barely relevant. Having RnR as a spaceship chase for GOTG could 'rock' better with Star Lord's soundtrack.

Guardians of the Galaxy is a solid comic book and a fun movie. However, it has yet to prove to have the same timeless appeal as The Twilight Zone. While I'm not opposed to a GotG attraction, it should not be replacing one that has proved it will age gracefully long after we've all come and gone.

RnR would work well with a number of themes. (Perhaps they could add projection technology to temp change it on a regular basis.

I have more respect for the Aerosmith choice since it seems that Steven Tyler enjoys an annual WDW trip, and it sounds like he is nice to many cast members.

(Sorry, I couldn't locate a video without the cheesy talk over it)

Terrible idea. ToT is possibly the best themed ride in all of Disney. Changing it would be an absolute shame.

I would be devastated if they changed the TOT at hollywood studios

Dont get me wrong i love Guardians Of The Galaxy but they dont need to do anything to one if not the best ride they have got

Its like when they changed Alien Encounter to Stich's lame ride that is boring as hell

Some people thought that was an improvement...namely, the people in the executive suite at Disney headquarters.

It just seems to me that the TT location wise, would not fit into the proposed Star Wars Land. We've not seen a rendering yet of how all of the new lands will be situated, but I don't believe that they'll be a hodge podge of attractions (like DCA) and that each new land, Pixarland, StarWarsland and Everythingelseland will all be homogenous as to each new theme.

Right you are totally on the same coin as me; just the opposite. If children will be creeped, they shouldn't ride. If it's not creepy, then children can ride it. I think it's a good thing for a lot of families to be able to ride the ride as a family, rather than have to skip or go through the line separately taking twice as long b/c your 5 year old is tall enough but would still get scared so you can't get rider swap....

Overall, it's a poll of would you be happy if they changed the theme. I would be happy so I voted yes and even offered my explanation.

I understand why many people would vote "no" but it doesn't change that I WOULD be elated if they changed the ride.

What Is Rider Switch and How Does It Work?
If Guests in your party can’t or don’t want to board an attraction, you don’t have to miss out!

If a child does not meet the height requirement or a Guest does not wish to board a particular attraction, no problem! With Rider Switch, one adult can wait with the non-rider (or riders) while the rest of the party enjoys the attraction. When the other adult returns, they can supervise the non-riding Guests, and the waiting adult can board the attraction without having to wait in the regular line again!

*As stated on Disney website the rule for rider swap is for people who can't or do not wish to ride(a family just needs to pull this up on their phone to show the CM if they aren't acquainted with how it works according to the site). But once again it isn't a family ride in the first place. The ride itself no matter what the theme could still scare the jeepers out of children. They just might enjoy being scared to nightmares due to the theme...

That's great b/c they've changed it since I read it.

Thank you!

You can still do the child swap with a child that is just too scared (but tall enough), they just handle it differently. When I was there this summer, everyone wanted to ride TOT except for my 4 year old, who said she was too scared. We went up and asked, but the CM wanted to measure....I really had forgotten that she was over 40"! What they did was make her wait through the line with us and then when we got to the boarding area, we told them we needed to do a rider swap because she wouldn't be riding. Therefore, they still are "following their rules" by allowing a rider swap for children that are too scared, but aren't clogging up the FP line with all of the extra people entering through. They still told me I was allowed to bring 2 back through to ride with me, so I didn't have to ride alone either.

As for single rider lines, they are only available at a handful of rides, and then they aren't necessarily guaranteed to be available at all times (I've seen the EE one closed when the SB line is short). I know they have single rider at EE, Test Track and RNR but can't think of any other rides at the moment that have a single rider line.

Did find this though... there is no way a kid who is afraid of the TOT theme is not afraid of the line. That's the whole thing everyone loves about the attraction is the line through the lobby and the preshow working everyone up.

I guess it's been this way for a while, but mileage varies greatly.

I just can't believe they are taking things away now. I know they dont have much space in California, but I heard the monsters inc ride might go away as well (and the muppets vision) for an entire marvel area. I love ToT theme and the actual ride. oh well...

Muppet Vision has been gone in DCA for a while now. I believe it is currently the home of the Frozen Singalong, but that may change when the new Frozen show opens at the Hyperion.

Frozen Sing a Long is gone now.

Well, I voted yes. Not because I think ToT theme is over but because I can't get my DD on the ride. She loves Guardians Of The Galaxy and maybe that would get her on it with me.....

WHOA.. WHAT?!?!

How? I've never seen Guardians so I'd love to know how it works into the theme of an elevator?

ToT is my favorite ride at Disney, so I'd be very unhappy.

Edit: just read that this is at DCA, not WDW.

Is there anything to substantiate this rumor? Most stories reference the original story on MiceChat which didn't cite anyone from Disney. Just hoping its only a rumor!

I have heard that WDW cannot make such a change because Universal owns the rights to Marvel inside amusement parks but those rights do not extend to Disneyland in California.

This rumor actually originates around a month or two ago with a source on wdwmagic. Micechat is actually one of the last sources to post the rumor.

Burbank and TWD....please don't do it. TOT at WDW is PERFECT! Please.....just leave it alone.
