So The Dis is reporting that Tower of Terror will be made over into a Guardians of the Galaxy Theme. What do we think about that? Personally, I think that the Tower of Terror is perfectly themed and that Guardians of the Galaxy deserves its own attraction more in line with what that franchise is all about. You?

I thought it was an overlay? that doens't mean changing that means they are finally doing like DL where they can change up the rides time to time. I wish they would add in the ability to do overlays in a lot more rides :)

EDITED TO ADD: I replied when I thought it was WDW getting hte change... now this just pisses me off that WDW is being left behind again with changes that can offer some different ride experiences with overlays but also happy tot isn't going down while the other work happens.

ToT is indeed perfectly themed, and is a great fit how it is in both DCA and DHS. They need to quit trying to cheap out and if they want a Marvel attraction, go guild a Marvel attraction. Shoehorning something in that doesn't fit the ride or the area is just a big mistake.

From "MiceChat" earlier this week. [Pertains to DCA, but it looks as if this will be Florida's fate as well].

"Elsewhere in DCA, a wild rumor got out earlier this spring about a plan to remake Tower of Terror into a Guardians of the Galaxy ride. We can tell you that the Guardians of the Galaxy rumor is true, and TDA’s executive suite was furious when the rumor leaked out from Glendale-based sources. The plan is for the original Twilight Zone backstory to be removed entirely, and replaced with an all new show based around the Collector character from the Guardians movie franchise."

From the pre-show to the attraction itself, it's flawless. I see something new every time I experience it. What idiot would want to mess with that?

IF this were to happen...is there a rumor as to when???
According to the Daily Fix, the re-opening would coincide with the release of the next Guardians movie. So I guess you could count back 6 months from that to estimate the closure.

Edit to add: Just re-watched the Daily Fix. Pete reported that MiceChat is reporting closure in the Fall with a reopening at the time of the movie release. (Don't hang this one on Pete. He was just re-reporting what MiceChat was reporting.)

The WDW ToT is, perhaps, WDI's best, most recent WDW attraction.

ToT in WDW is still a top-5 WDI project in Florida.

I'd rather get a Groot overlay on Primeval Whirl then mess with an existing, great attraction.

Good grief, just pull out one of the Dumbo replacements and make a Rocket's rockets ride.

I don't understand the thinking that re-skinning a beloved ride, leaving it exactly the same core experience but will, inarguably, be a sub-par experience is somehow a "win".

Now if it's a TEMPORARY move - like reskinning IASW or HM for the purpose or marketing... That's a bit more understandable (but not much more acceptable)

Sorry if this has been asked or brought up, but I thought GOTG was Marvel? Doesn't Universal still hold the only rights to have them in their parks in that geographic area? Or does this only apply to more traditional Marvel characters? Or is GOTG not Marvel?

Sorry- a bunch of stupid questions rolled into a few messy sentences :)

(This is in regard to the rumor for it to move to HS... I know it won't apply to DCA)

I voted to leave TOT alone. They have the land to add another good E ticket ride at the Studios. If at a smaller venue as DCA maybe that would work, but TOT has always been one of the top rides at the Studios.

This is only being discussed for Disneyland.

The MiceChat article suggested that the ride would be overhauled and totally rethemed. I think it's a terrible idea.

The rumor appears to apply only to the one at Disneyland. That's fine. I think the Disneyland version is inferior to WDW's, if only because of the single-shaft setup (the vehicle does not move between two shafts like the one at WDW; that alone makes it nowhere near as cool as the WDW version). I would likely ride it again if they made it different. I'd prefer they leave WDW's alone though.

And since it's Disneyland, the Universal/Marvel thing doesn't apply. But I think Universal's deal includes only the characters already portrayed in the Universal Orlando parks. And the Guardians of the Galaxy characters are not among them.

If there was a poll option that said "OK, but only at Disneyland" that's what I'd pick.

Hopefully this is true. But the Daily Fix video quite specifically said "Hollywood Studios" and not "California Adventure".

But either way, it doesn't matter to me. I go to both places. And I don't want either ToT changed!!!

Are they still adding the new ToT themed bar at HS? Then doing an GotG overlay wouldn't make sense and would take away from the pull of the bar area. Plus, they would both be happening around the same-ish time...
I'm betting (and hoping!) that this is definitely not going to impact World. We were just in Land and I missed ToT because my littles refused to ride. I NEED my ToT fix in November!

Universal doesn't have all Marvel,
It's closer to "just" the comic book Avengers at the time of the agreement...or something like that.
