I have twins and would really love to pick an oyster that had twin pearls inside on our next trip to WDW.

Thought I would post a poll to see if there was 1 location that tended to have more twin pearls than other locations.

If you have any "tips" on how to pick a special twin oyster, please respond too. I have read on here that the ugliest oyster with the most hair tends to produce bigger pearls. Is there anything special to look for in an oyster with twins inside?

I know that there is no guarantee and it just is random luck of the draw on the day that I am there.

Thank you.

*EDITED* In searching Disney's website, I see there is a Pearl Factory Location at Typhoon Lagoon. I am ASSUMING that you can pick-a-pearl at that location too. I wanted to modify the poll to add this option, but can't figure out how to do that.

I've picked twins twice at the Pick-a-pearl in Japan. I went with the "pick the ugliest" strategy hoping for bigger pearls and both times ended up with 6mm twins! Good luck!

I picked "twins" in Japan. Which was amazing. It was my twins first trip to WDW! A bit of that WDW magic/pixie dust:wizard: I also went with the ugliest oyster, my 5yr old ds (at the time) picked a "blue" pearl which I was told was rare as well. It was fun!

I have always gone with the ugliest shell too, but never gotten twins. :sad2: I have picked 6 to date (all in Japan) and all were larger than average though. I am still hoping for a colored pearl (all of mine are standerd white or cream), but so far no luck!

I got twin, dark grey pearls at Japan -- ugliest shell :thumbsup2

I would assume that there are more pearls picked in Japan anyway so I'm not sure your poll is going to be very accurate. You might get 45 people saying they got twins at Japan out of 200 while you could get 14 people saying they got them at DTD out of 16.

Can anyone give me an idea of how much time we should allow for this in japan, november non recommended day? I probably wont have it set there fwiw! :) Tia!

If there is no line it only takes 5 minutes. You pay for the pearl at the register than head over to the shell tank and point to the one you want. The girl/guy takes it out does a little routine with a drum, opens the shell, cleans the pearl and hands it to you. If you want it set, you head back over to the register and pick out a setting (I had pearl studs done and a single pearl on a white gold chain (very pretty)). They give you a number and tell you to come back in a few hours to pick up the finished piece. The line can get long though, so if it looks too crazy just come back later.

I was in Japan last October and there was a woman who in line ahead of me that picked twins. Turned out she has done this 6 or 7 times before and had gotten twins every time! We asked her what her secret was but she said she didn't really know. Well, I decided I would use her help to try and get twins. She picked out a shell with me and when it was opened, twin blue 6mm pearls. I couldn't believe it! Obviously there must be something about the shells that draws her to them (whether she realizes it or not).

Just a note, I did she 3 other people get twins in the hour or so I was there. However, I have done pick-a-pearl many, many times before and until that day never saw anyone get twins. Might have just been that batch of oysters.

I have nothing constructive to add to this thread since I've only ever gotten singles, but this is totally amazing!!! Especially the mama who found twins on her twins' first trip. I would have bawled!

OP, I hope you find those twins!! :thumbsup2

I also have had twins twice. Cannot remember what was different/special about the oysters since I usually get two-three oysters at a time (DH spoils me!) and have never paid much attention to the distinctions.

My daughter got twins her first time. We were in Japan. I helped pick the oyster by looking at the ugliest hairiest....the girl behind the desk didn't seem surprised that I said that! We had a lot of people looking...seemed like others didn't know "the secret"...

If I were to get twins (I obviously haven't) I'd have them set as matching earrings and give one to each twin -- or keep the set as a pair.

I hit the mother load and had twin silver/blue pearls! DH was pretty salty lmao.

When we were there last October my wife got twins.. I'd read loads of posts and advised her to pick the ugliest and hairiest oyster and she got twins, gave this advice to another couple and they got twins too , maybe just coincidence

This was in Japan in Epcot

hello...this gave us an unexpected pixiedust:...well @ least for me.

we were @ aulani last june. i was not aware that our daughter
had been wanting to do this for the past year. according to my
wife~ she even been dreaming picking a black one. i had a
different take on this...as a cheap way of spending my money.

our "baby"..is no longer a baby but a young lady. not quite 16
but she "thinks" that way. so i wasn't even paying attention
@ all --until the lady went to open the shell up~ they do some kind
of "bell ringing" ritual for good luck. that's when my daughter
started trembling & tears of joy- that did get my attention!
they were twins & both black. it made her so happy that i told
her she could keep doing trying-thinking it would end on the
next one---well after 5x , all twins & black...i got her older brother
to pick one....it wasn't tins but a really large , black with a green
ring....so my wife tried, & got another black one...& then
she finally broke the charm...but they were twins pink ones.
enough! ( the settings were over $2,000 & not all of them done.)

i am not made out of money , but i got to say....i will never forget
the happiness these lil'round things gave my daughter. that was our
first trip there, and that's the best memory i have. ( we also
stop over @ disneyland....& while doing the parks....the ariel girl
spotted my daughter while going on break.....to have a lil'~
girl chat....princess: to princess:..which brought back wdw experiences,
where lil'girls used to think she was the real ariel. it was special
to me because she thinks too big now.

so i think they run in "groups' & location determine the coloring.

Thank you for sharing your experience. That truly was a surprising event! I didn't know pearls came in black, to be honest. What a lucky batch of oysters!

Thank you to everyone else who took the poll and responded too. Hoping I have good luck later this year. From the poll results so far, Japan in WS is the place to go. Thank you again.

BE CAREFUL!!!! This poll is very misleading. It does not show you how many people actually pick pearls at each location. If most people pick pearls in Japan, then it is not surprising that the number of twins there is larger. This poll tells you absolutely nothing without a second polll that asks "Where did you pick a pearl".
