In light of the point adjustment, how will this point change effect you?

thanks Uncle Remus! it'll be very interesting to see the results!::yes::

Thanks Remus....I wondered if a poll would go up soon....

I voted "other".

We're still working this all out....but I see us, downsizing to smaller units (i.e.studios) on the weekends to save points but still maintain the same length of stay. So room switches will be in our future.

I also foresee air mattresses and staying in a 1 bedroom at OKW. So this is what we are considering at this time.

I love the change. We usually arrive on Friday and stay the weekend and through the next Sunday, so we will save alot of points.

I said I'd add on, but only because I was already considering it. I'm not going to jump into it and will put together some spreadsheets to see exactly what I need.

I joined in late 2007, and I have 150 points at BCV & 150 points at VWL. I've been using the BCV points for solo trips in a studio Sunday to Friday. (I'm happy to move to a value for the weekend, and that won't change--I'm still not going to spring for weekend points or member cash). The VWL points are committed to a weeklong trip in May 2009 with my kids & grandkids. After that, the kids will be sharing the VWL points as long as I'm using BCV.

Realistically, I'll probably only be traveling alone for the next 5-7 years (I'm 63), so I'm really trying to figure out what works for the kids/grandkids in the future. I have a contract for each of them, and they will need accommodations with a kitchen and washer/dryer. Before this change, I had thought I'd add some AKV points to each contract (they are different Use Years) so the kids would have the 11-month home resort advantage there. Now, I'm thinking whatever I add should be at the resorts I already own. I do feel that once Kidani is open, AKV will be fairly easy to get at 7 months because of the size.

So much to consider :sad2:

I also have a traditional timeshare that I've already exchanged to stay offsite (but nearby) in May 2010, and was planning to move to DVC for five weeknights at the end. I may cut that back to four nights to save 10 points.

Go two years in a row then skip a year to make up for the lost points. Less likely to by AP so no bonus cash trips or extra days. It also may mean a smaller unit some trips. I do wonder how many people will decrease unit size to make up for points. For my August 2009 trip we could fit into a 1-bed but splurged on a 2 bed. Might need to change this to have enough points for Feb 2010. We were ones that would go for 10-12 days at a time at least for the trips we already had planned.

I voted no difference. Since we stay for 14 nights, the total number of points won't change for us.

We are considering this as well......skipping a year.......not getting AP's.....which would eliminate cash trips (like the one I'm doing in 14 days at POP). Only doing that because we have AP's. Add us to the list of those that will downsize rooms or switch out rooms for weekends...........

I figured out my upcoming July trip to AKV. 4 nights in concierge studio and 5 nights in 1br SV. I actually would save 2 points in 2010 verses what I used in 2009.:confused3 Does that sound right?

We'll probably go every other year for longer periods of time now instead of yearly. It's time for us to see and do more than just Disney anyway.

We own at AKV and just added on last week. Wish I had known about the chart before, because I probably would have added a few more points to make up the difference for the times we travel. As a result, we will probably stay in savannah view our first stay then downgrade to standard view.

That's my issue too. I would have bought about 10 more points had I had the chart 10 days ago.

Other.
Hopefully we'll be able to fill the gap the same way we are for May's trip.
We booked the buy4 get 3 free offer and upgraded to 8 day no exp. tickets. So, for $325 more than the price of DVC APs we will get 7 nights at a Value. We'll upgrade the MYW tickets to DVC APs before we leave. And we're really only staying at the Pop 3 nights (2 in front & 1 in back) so we won't be cramped the whole time. I know we could have saved about $100 by going off-site to do that, but we didn't want to hassle with parking.

It has no impact on my pesonal travel habit for OKW. I compared our usual travel habits, 2 trips per year, a studio in early June for 8 nights and a 1 bedroom in early December for 10 nights. The point difference was 1 point total. The June reservation would be 6 points less, the December reservation 7 points more. I usually wind up banking several points anyway, then taking guests every few years.

I have long hoped for this change. We travel on both weekends to maximize our stay and always felt punished for it.

This is our first year and we have two trips planned one in June to HH and one in Dec to SSR. When looking at the 2010 chart our June trip would be 8 more points and our Christmas trip would be 13 less points----so not enough to really make a difference. I actually like the idea of weekends not being so much more.
After looking into Marriott last summer I think DVC is much better as far as flexibility!!! I could never be locked into a specific week or time of year.

Marriott does not lock you into a specific week or time of year. They are cheaper to own, maintain and allow you the greatest flexibility of time and place via their exchange with II.

Right now I gotta say I'm truly peeved with DVC management. In one fell swoop they devalued by SSR ownership by about $1000. I haven't managed the calculations on my pending BLT add-on. Still evaluating whether that's something I should complete. This latest stunt has really soured me on the company as a whole.

I hope everyone who can take advantage of the weekend points enjoys it. I expect many more will be flooding the market with resales instead. And Disney will take a hit on the incidentals. So far the response to this poll has most people either staying onsite less or staying elsewhere.

Bad move DVC, really bad move.

We will always go for a week and prob stay at a value or standard view, so it really won't effect us. I just don't like that I didn't know they could do this...

We bought DVC with the intention of doing 3 Sun-Thursday stays and then added on when we realized that we could not live without VERO beach, and thus, would rather do a longer, 2 week stay that included Vero and a weekend onsite.

As a result, the new charts don't really impact our current point usage BUT I really feel for those who are taking a hit. It seems like it has MUCH more negative implications than positive implications. I've heard some members say they are saving between 5-15 points a year - that's not much. Many more members are now 20-40 points SHORT.

I agree that this was a BAD move on the part of DVC.
