Ok, sensing a bit of restlessness in the natives... It's time to reveal.

Animal Kingdom Lodge

PamOKW was very close in terms of the source.

In essence, I found a building permit that was just issued a few weeks ago. In the permit, Disney Vacation Development, Inc. is requesting a construction company to remodel three existing areas on the 5th Floor of the Animal Kingdom Lodge to be used as "model rooms".

My logic: DVD, Inc. --> Model Rooms --> Next DVC Project

Troy

Seems logical.

And I voted correctly too. And I'm saving my money now......

Well, we'll see if this happens. I think if it does, there will be a lot of happy DVCers who will be plunking down $ for points. I'd love to, but at this time, I am not ready to take on more dues, but I'd take my chances to stay at VAKL at the 7 month window.

I think it's California, but I voted AKL. (Maybe Disney is watching LOL!)

I would love for it to be California. They really need a DVC out there. I know they are limited on space though, so hopefully if they do it, it won't be half way, because of these limitations. I voted for California.

I'm not sure that's what the construction permit is for. I tried for MONTHS to book a single concierge room at AKL for 12/2/06 (just one night before our 12/3 cruise) and the rooms just weren't being released. Even the concierge at AKL didn't know why. In June, I was finally able to book the night I wanted in December and the person who helped me with the reservation said something about remodeling of rooms at the concierge level. They are being changed to some other fancy name besides just calling them "concierge" rooms, too. I got the impression that they didn't know exactly when the work was going to be done so they were being careful with taking concierge room reservations.

Now, I would buy AKL. WE LOVE STAYING THERE. That hotel is one of the reasons that we waited so long to become DVC members. The rooms are really small thou so that finally did change our minds to join DVC. They are 340 sf. I would love a DVC villa there!!!!

If anything, I think your experience adds credence to Troy's theory. Others have posted that they have been told their concierge room will be a standard room not deluxe. In the past the club level rooms have been on the 5th and 6th floors which are deluxe.

Of course, it could just be while the rooms are remodeled but it seems early for that. :confused3

I started a new thread that shows a picture of the notice.

Picture of AKL Notice

I think the wording of the notice is very instructive and doesn't leave much doubt that the project is for DVC.

BTW, it is the Kilimanjaro Club. Every club level has a name like that...Innkeeper's Club, Royal Palm Club, etc..

I was reading over on the All Things and WDW board that a NYC company has it on their web site that they landed the DVC - Contemporary contract to be completed sometime in 2008.

More info: Gwathmey, Siegel & Associates, out of NYC

Contemporary Disney Vacation Club
Resort Timeshare Condominiums
Lake Buena Vista, FL
Status: In design
Completion Date: 2008

It could be both AKL and the Contemporary or at least one being announced shortly after the other. There is no particular reason why DVC has to restrict themselves to only actively selling one resort at a time.

They could easily be in a situation of: We are currently selling points at AKL, Contemporary and SSR (possibly to be replaced by EP).

Now of course, everyone figures that folks would ignore SSR and snap up AKL and Cont, but what DVC has to do is. Points are all $X per point, however we have this great incentive going with SSR where we credit you some money per points and waive closing costs and give you a free weeks vacation (or whatever) but provide bonuses for SSR.

Also I believe that AKL and the Cont will set new records for the point costs for a stay. It will cost mucho-more points to stay at either of those compared with an SSR or EP. This will incent some folks to purchase SSR/EP.

With the right incentives etc. they should be able to even out the demand across the resorts. There will be those who are willing to pay a premium to stay at Cont or AKL while others will opt for the most cost conscious mega-resorts.

I might have interest in both, for very differetn reasons--when DH and I run away form home sans kids the Contemp. would be a great place to stay. We are ususally only there for four days and spend a lot of time at the MK. As these trips are very short and very spread apart a 50 point contract with banking and borrowing would work just fine!

Now, AKL would be great for the past few years we have ended our vacations with a few days there and I would prefer to use points over cash and have the larger accomadations.

I have no real opinion on the next DVC as I am still a pretty new member. I would like Contemporary as it is close to MK and could be linked by monorail, but will take anything. A question I do have though is does DVC offer current members pre-sale prices or special incentives to add on points once the site is chosen, what is the past history with this? I have been wanting to do a small add on contract and will wait for the next offerring to purchase.

My understanding is that Members do get a 'first shot' ...

ITA that it may possibly be both. I know someone said the MS CM's said we would "be surprised." Two resorts at once would be surprising. I doubt Disney has any worry about selling the CRV, just a look at these boards and they know current members would be all over that, as well as AKL.

We would snap up AKL in a heartbeat. :thumbsup2

So....the announcement......on 10/1 for the Million Dreams?? Or on the Member Cruise??

yes! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes :cool1:

We may possibly see both announced at the same time. However, VAKL will be next as it will be completed first (even though both will start construction at about the same time).
