BTW - I lived in your state in the early 80's - in Charleston to be exact. (Gotta be the nicest people we ever met!) The unemployment rate was 25% and things were pretty dismal. How's the economy these days?

Yeah, West Virginia is a lovely place to visit...you just wouldn't want to live here

The economy...well....stinks, frankly. The problem in WV is that we're still on a coal economy footing, and that's not exactly cutting edge. We need to get caught up with the rest of the country in a LOT of ways, not the least of which is our industry. Actual fact: the number one crop exported from WV is...well, let's just say that Bob Marley would have felt right at home

I live about 15 miles from Charleston....Love the place, and all our family is from the area, or trust me, we'd be outta here pretty quickly. Both DW and I make considerably less than we could elsewhere (she's a financial controller and I can do anything from Systems Admin to network engineering to Crystal Report design), simply because we choose to live here at "home". There just aren't any JOBS here, so you've got to either suck it up or move.

That's the way that Arkansas was when I graduated from high school 40 years ago. Things can change - we actually have a fairly robust economy now - even though we are still one of the poorer states.

Unemployement in the NW sector of the state is about 2%. Unfortunately it's still pretty bad in the delta and that pushes the state average up.

When I graduated from college there were just no jobs here at all. I am not in the work force at present but would be able to get a pretty good job here if I were looking.

I made a lot of money in CA but was broke because of housing costs. The cost of living can eat you alive in many parts of the US.
