Police: 'Spitting' Teen Shocked With Taser At Disney

Ok, this might not be popular, but I'm thinking since we haven't heard from the parents immediately that those kids ARE in trouble at home. The other thing is this, and I know I'm being picky, so flame away, but I find the use of the term "white trash" to be highly offensive, especially in a thread mainly talking about being respectful. If the kids were black, would you be using the n-word? I was brought up taught that that term did not apply to black people in general, but to the people acting like these kids or whatever. But we still wouldn't use it.

As for the kids. Yikes! Can you imagine this? "We got money now. We can do whatever we want. Too &*@#'n bad for you, man. Gramps can buy us out of anything."
Trash comes in all colors.

This irritates the heck out of me!!!!! My neighbors 4 year old does this, and I think it is totally disrespectful!!!!!!!!!! I am not her peer, I think I deserve some respect. Her mother never corrects her though.

My kids attempted it once w/ her mother, and I immediately corrected them, right infront of her, yet she didnt get the hint. Any ideas on getting the point across w/out causing WWIII w/ the neighbors?? :lmao:

I agree that this situation seems to be about a lack of respect for themselves and others and that people (on this board and general adults - not just kids) have a lack of respect for others these days. But honestly, the name thing is one of those things I can't get behind. If your respect lies on being called Mr/Mrs ____, then you should re-evaluate what respect means and where it comes from. Blind deference (to anyone or anything) gets us nowhere good.

See that's what I didn't understand about the US judicial system, innocent until proven guilty by a police report. I'm not saying that these folks didn't do the terrible behaviour that they are accused of but this thread is a great example of mob mentality. We have had erroneous information posted as facts (adults arrested were the parents), we have had the websites posted and the names of minors posted and we have attacked people who have had a wait and see attitude. Frankly I'm glad that I'm in the minority and do not believe it is right to punish (through public humiliation) the accused prior to a trial even if I disagree with their apparent behaviour.

:thumbsup2

Sometimes, people need to feel better than someone else and threads like this one explode (or ebay threads, complaints about neighbors/other WDW guests). I wish we could just worry about travel plans and quit with the judgments of other people.

The US judicial system has NOT found these kids guilty. Ordinary citizens here on the DIS have read the police report and are operating under the natural assumption that the police officer involved has written the truth; we are all hoping that, in the event of a conviction, these kids are punished to the full extent of the law. And there may indeed be a few vigillantes out there who advocate violence against the kids prior to their conviction, but most of us simply want the kids punished properly AFTER they are convicted in a court of law.

The names of the two "minors" that were published were, in fact, the two people who were charged as adults, meaning that legally, their names are published in court documents and are public record. And if these two people didn't want their web sites to be public, they should have made them private, which apparently they did after they got famous by being arrested for assaulting a police officer at the place where Dreams Come True.

The names of the 3 who have been charged as minors are legally protected from being published by the media, and have not, in fact, appeared in any of the stories, nor have they appeared anywhere in this thread.

I agree that mob mentality is a terrible thing, but I disagree with your assessment of this discussion as being mob mentality; it is a discussion of the causes and consequenses of the incident in question, and a statement of opinion on how the perpetrators should be punished when and if they are convicted of their crimes in a court of law.

BTW, for a perfect example of true mob mentality, read the police report of the incident - those 5 unarmed holligans attacked a uniformed, armed police officer en masse, and didn't stop until one of them was tasered into submission. To me, that's a perfect example of the mob mentality exciting people beyond all capacity for rational thought (another movie quote for those of you who are movie buffs!)

Exactly!

For multiple police officers, security guards and WDW guest witnesses to have seen spitting and cursing and punching, I would presume that to be the truth. This was in a pretty public place. In this country, even if there are 200 witnesses, you (collective you, is English the only language that doesn't have a separate word for this?) are still (legally) presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. That does not mean that everyone in the world truly believes you are innocent up until that point. For that matter, guilty people have been found not guilty and that doesn't change their actions.

Even if they have a defense, I don't really know what could justify cursing and spitting at WDW and ganging up on a law enforcement officer and punching him in the face. I can't imagine anyone could.

It is not up to me (lucky for them) to decide on their punishment, it is up to the judicial system. I hope the system gets it right this time.

I just glad the idiots weren't from Brooklyn.:thumbsup2

If you were spit on like this at WDW, what would you do? Or worse, if your child was the recipient of this foul attack? Would you stay calm? You are in Disney and don't want to be booted as well or worse, get ganged up on and beaten so that you don't enjoy your vacation.

I would be in jail. If someone spits or hit one of us, they better be ready to fight. I think I need to add bail money to our packing list.

We had a spitting incident when I was there with my family last May...we were in line for Big Thunder Mountain behind a Brazilian tour group of 14-16 year old boys....we loaded onto the ride...and ended up in between several of these boys... so you can guess what happened...it was gross, during the ride when we were going up the hills , the boys in front of my family were spitting.... I assume they were doing this to get their friends in back of us...but unfortunately it ended up on myself and my DD and DS...it was awful... you could see the splatters all over our shirts and thankfully we had sunglasses on, or ewww....

:scared1:  :scared1:

That's just awful. I would have wacked the idiot that spit. YUCK

FWIW, threads like this don't make me feel better than anyone else. They make me feel better about the human race and society, that most people believe that this behavior is unacceptable and are willing to say so. We have become far too accepting and nonjudgmental as a society. People in our world are making excuses for murderers and rapists because their childhoods weren't the best. People drive drunk, they have an excuse. CEO's run a company into the ground and people lose their pensions, they have an excuse.
If we as a society don't stand up against what is wrong, make some judgments once in awhile and draw a line, the events in Tomorrowland will be eerily prophetic, because that will be our tomorrow - and we will all have to live in it.

That is disrespectul in your opinion only. Children are children and don't exactly remember all the rules all the time. As long as they are good kids that's all that matters.

Are you kidding? MY children know what is right and what is wrong. How come I get the feeling that If it was your children that was spitting and got tasered, you and your lawyer would have a press confrance about how your children are just children and they cant always remember all the rules.

See what happens when they run out of turkey legs. I understand the kids. I have been there!

I went back through the thread but I didn't see anything about the parents or confirm if the Grandfather DID win the lottery.

I did go to the kid's website and didn't read that or that they were planning on going to WDW. The last posts were around the 15 - 19th and you would think that it would be something they would have mentioned if they knew in advance they were going to WDW.:confused3

Anyone know what resort they were staying at?

No offense, but I don't need a thread to feel better than some teenager that spit at people and got in a fight at Disney World.
Seriously, it doesn't get much trashier than this.

Unfortunately, the 3 minors have been identified by both posts and links in this thread. Although 2 of the minors were not named, they were identified as the brother and sister (with their ages) of the older 3rd minor who was named. I will not provide the link to the post or the news article that named them as I believe that the minors should have been legally protected but a cursory search in this thread will show that you have your information wrong in saying that they have not been named. I am not saying that the behaviour of the 5 involved shouldn't be punished, however I am saying that the behaviour of this thread - reporting erroneous information as fact, assuming guilt, applauding use of a possible lethal force for spitting (this is not why the taser was used but many posters have applauded it's use because of the spitting), identifying minors involved in criminal proceedings are just a few of the examples of the mob mentality exhibited here - which is what I am talking about.

Totally agree

"Mob mentality"......I think we need to calm a little here.
I thought this was a cheery site about the Happiest Place on Earth????

The girl was tasered (which I applaud) because SHE HIT A COP.:scared1: I think he should have introduced her to his billy club, but that's just me.:rolleyes1

If they had not been spitting, then none of this would have happened.

I did not say that the girl was tasered for spitting, I am well aware that this was not why she was tasered. However, view the posts on this thread and you will see many posts where people have applauded the tasering because she spit. The spitting is disgusting but what have we become as a society if we think it is appropriate to use possible deadly force (hundreds have died after being tasered) because we were spit on.

Should we think that it is appropriate to beat people unjustifiably (which has caused 10 times more deaths than tasers)?
:guilty:

the "mob" was those 5 idiots who attacked security and the police. I hope they get jail time, but they won't because our judicial system too easy on people. IMO assaulting a police officer should be mandatory jail time, no ifs, ans or buts about it. My dh is a State Trooper and was a Balto. City Police Officer before that. He said he agree with the poster who stated that those kids were lucky the officer only tasered one of them and that no one was injured more seriously or even shot. I do not care their ages, they know not to attack people, esp. an officer. The spitting is disgusting and they shoud have just left the park like I am sure they were asked to, instead of causing the real trouble they did by attacking security and the officer.
I guess my question is we should assume they are innocent b/c the police officer and security guards are lying? Why would anyone assume they are innocent? People like these 5 are the reason police need tasers, batons, and pepper spray - and even their guns. To protect themselves and other citizens. I applaud the officer for his self control and ability to get the situation under control.
