I wanted to get the opinion of some of the more experience DVC owners on the board. I just bought in through resale to 210 points in the BWVs. I'm planning a Honeymoon and can't decide whether to use my points or to book with cash and then rent my points to finance the vacation.
Here's what I'm planning for October 23-Nov 1st:
2 Nights Honeymoon Concierge @ Grand Floridian
2 Nights Concierge @ AKL
4 Nights Boardwalk Villas
2 Nights Vero Beach
I've already booked six nights at Boardwalk with points (in case I can't get Vero when I'm within the 7 Month window). I was able to make a reservation at the GF for Honeymoon Concierge and AKL Concierge through the website but I don't know if I should use points instead.
It works out to 70 points per night for GF concierge and 50 points per night for AKL concierge. So 240 points total to use points for the trip. I have 420 using 2005 and borrowing 2006 points for the trip and 156 are used for the Boardwalk reservation. So 264 remaining to use in the Disney hotels or to rent and pay for the cash reservations.
My question is should I use the reservations I have, go through the trouble of renting the points, and then pay for the reservations. OR do I use the 240 points to reserve generic concierge rooms at the resorts and risk not being able to request the king bed in the GF and possibly less chance of getting the Savannah view at the AKL. When I talked to MS they made it sound like I would receive whatever was available at check-in.
Since this is a honeymoon I'm concerned about the having the King bed in the GF and a Savannah view at the AKL. If using points means I get whatever is left over when I arrive at the resort than it's worth the time, money, and trouble to rent and use a cash reservation (plus I might be able to use AP or DVC discounts on the room if they come available).
What do you think? Anyone used points for a similar situation?
