Points Question. Still Trying to Learn!

We are fairly new to DVC and I have a question about borrowing points. August use year. We got back from a trip last week and used points from 2016 to go on that trip. We have a trip booked for May of 2016 and borrowed points from 2017 to book that. I am planning on going again in Jan 2018. I want to book home resort for that trip so 11 months out would be next month. Can I borrow points from 2018 to use for that 2018 trip or do I have to wait until August to do so?

You borrow/bank when you can book. You don't have to wait to a certain UY to borrow/bank.

16UY: August 2016 = end July 2017, for January 2017 trip

17UY: August 2017 - end July 2018, borrowed those into 2016 UY to use for May 2017 trip

18UY: August 2018 - end July 2019 would need to borrow into 2017 to use for January 2018 trip

Just wanted to make sure you would need to borrow the '18 points for the 2018 trip. I believe you do. I assume you used all 2016 points and all 2017 points?

When you make your reservation, either online or on the phone to MS, you will be given the opportunity to borrow or bank points.

UY is about the dates of your stay. nothing to do with when you can call to book (that is based on home resort).

Points no matter where they came from need to be in your account for the dates of your stay.
