We bought a contract at OKW and I have a few questions. I have been reading on this board for a while but still don't know these answers!

1. Can "banked" points be transferred to another member?
2. Once points are banked, how long do you have to use them? For example, if my UY is Feb and there are banked points, when can I use them until?
3. If banked points can't be transferred, what are my other options if we can't use them in time?
4. What if I want to buy points for another member to transfer into my account? Do they follow my UY and home resort?

Ok, I think that is it for now. Whew, this is kind of confusing for me! :flower:

No.

They are good until the end of the use year into which you banked them. For example, if you bank your 2005 use year points, they will be good for stays beginning on 2/1/2006. The banked points expire on 1/31/2007.

One option is to rent the points. You use the banked points to make a reservation for someone else.

Transferred points are supposed to retain their original use year and resort. AFAIK, there is still a "glitch" in the MS computer system such that the points take on the home resort of the account they end up in.

Keep good records if you transfer in points from another resort and want the 11 month booking advantage for the other resort.

If your use year is not the same as the person who is transferring the points to you, MS generally asks which use year you want to put the points in. Be sure you choose the use year that matches the dates you want to use the transferred points for.

Transferred points can be borrowed or banked. (You just can't transfer points that were banked or borrowed first).

You'll get it very soon, don't worry!

No

2. Once points are banked, how long do you have to use them? For example, if my UY is Feb and there are banked points, when can I use them until?

Banked points simply become assigned to the subsequent Use Year. If you have 150 points from your 2004 Use Year (2/1/04 to 1/31/05) that were banked into '05, they now have a Use Year of 2/1/05 to 1/31/06.

3. If banked points can't be transferred, what are my other options if we can't use them in time?

Renting the points. When one "rents" points, it's basically a process of making a reservation in the name of a non-DVC member in exchange for negotiated cash compensation.

You could gift them (or rent) to a friend / relative.

You could use them for any of DVC's other Collections (Concierge Collection, etc.)

I think you could also deposit them with II and try to do an exchange to another timeshare, but there are many more qualified people here to discuss that option.

4. What if I want to buy points for another member to transfer into my account? Do they follow my UY and home resort?

Here's a convoluted answer:

Technically they are supposed to follow their original Home Resort and Use Year. If you buy 100 BCV points off of a member, you should be able to use those points to book BCV at 11 months.

But, reportedly DVC's computers do not handle the transaction in this manner. They will actually assume your Home resort and UY.

Must be an echo in here today. :teeth:
I like it when you agree with me - especially if I get to talk first, LOL!

Best wishes -

Thanks, that is so helpful. I do have some UY questions as well, which I will post in a separate thread.
