I'm sure maybe in the past it has been mentioned, but what would be the harm in charging points for passes ? Just like when you go to another Disney resort (outside of the DVC resorts), Disney loses money on the room but you points are at a premium. So if I can get a $300.00 room for 20 points why not a $300.00 annual pass for 20 points ? Just a thought... Please don't quote me on the points, just an example.

The points used for room trade outs are turned over to CRO and rented by Disney, often at rack rates, the proceeds, after Disney charges a service fee, are turned over to DVC as re-imbursement. DVC must the pay an agreed upon rate for the room to wherever we traded. I'd bet the points per night used in trades vs what CRO takes in pretty much evens out.

I don't think trading points for passes would be much of an advantage to Disney, nor to members, considering we'd be paying dues on those points.

For an annual pass, I wouldn't expect Disney to settle for less than 45 points, since they would figure in the service charge for CRO to rent those points, then at $4+ for dues, we'd be looking at $180 for that pass. Not a good deal. Even at 35 points, we'd be paying over $140. It just doesn't make a lot of economic sense for either side.

Why not just rent your points?

Take your cash and do what ever you want with it.
Buy AP, PAP, PHP.

$300 at $10 = 30 points. Nice and simple.

Or why not blow it for dinner at V&A.

That is what I LOVE about DVC.

Agree with the others.

I don't see DVC being interested in allowing members to use points as a commodity for other purchases. Even if they did, the exchange rate would be significantly less than the $10 per point you can easily get renting your points.

Based on other trade situations, a $300 AP would likely cost about 60-65 points. Would it be worth that option? Not for me.
