Points for Gift Cards

Has anyone ever received MyPoints points for purchasing Disney Store gift cards from disneystore.com?

I guess I really have nothing to lose if I'm going to buy the tickets anyway. But I was going to wait a couple of more months to buy them.

I looked on the MyPoints shopping FAQs and saw that JC Penny does not award points for Gift Card purchases, but saw nothing about disneystore.com.

I'm in the same boat as you are. I don't need to buy my tickets yet, we are going in October. But I'm wondering the same thing, I was not aware that they may not be available for points to count. Getting double points sounds good though, unfortunately I'd have to keep the bill on my cc for a few months, still working on saving money for my trip so I don't think its worth it to get the points now if I'm going to be paying interest on my purchase.

I'd also be careful if you plan to use the gift cards to buy Park Passes, I have heard that they won't allow you to do that.

Well, I did it. I called 3 disney stores and asked if I could use gift cards from .com to buy park passes all 3 said yes. So I went ahead and bought $1000 worth of them. It should get me 4000 points, plus $10 cash back on my CC, (would have got that anyway...If I had just used CC at The Disney Store).

Even if I don't get the points I'm not out anything, but I can't find any reason I should not get them.

The only thing I'll lose is the interest I would have received for having the $1000 in the bank for 6 months or so. And these days thats very very little.

I cannot see why you couldn't use them for the park passes. I do not you cannot use special discounts and coupons from the purchases you make at the store for them. Usually the coupons for $10 off $50 or more during certain dates tend to block out park passes, but the gift card is the same as money.

Let us know if you get the Mypoints though. I have to wait, unfortunately I don't have the money to pay off the cc bill when it comes in and its not worth it to pay interest on it for 3 months for the points.

Over Christmas we returned something without a receipt and were given a gift card-my guess is that this is different than the denominational gift cards, because they absolutely would NOT let my buy my park passes or Disney Dollars with it

Tara-I'm a Disney Store CM, and you are right-what you got was not a gift card but a merchandise credit in the form of a plastic card.

I'm glad that nicknamy was able to get the OK from three different Disney Stores to use gift cards for park pass purchases. In my store, it depends on the manager on duty if this is allowed. Some say yes, some say no. Does that make sense? NO, it does not. The logic behind it is that Disney Store GC are only to be used for Disney Store merchandise or the catalog. Disney park passes are WDW merchandise.

Just to be on the safe side, I would call the stores again and get the name of the manager who gave you the official OK. Then if there's any question, you have some ammo to use.

FYI-

We picked up our AP vouchers from our local (St. Louis) Disney store today and paid with our gift cards bought online. I was sure there would be no problem buying them with the gift cards( I checked this with 3 managers before buying the GCs).

Now the good news. After a couple of emails back and forth I was just credited with 4200 MyPoints ($1050 x 4 pts/$)

And was able to "talk" the manager into letting me use the remainging balance on the last GC to buy $40 worth of Disney Dollars with it.

So I got 4200 points and 10.50 back from my CC reward program. The only thing that could have been better is if I could have caught a deal at the dis store for buy a pass and get a $50 GC or something like that which they ran last year.
