Points expiration?

Having now owned our DVC for over a year I should know this but...

We own SSR with a DEC UY. We currently have 4 points in the current UY that we will bank into our next UY (which begins Dec 2009). So we will have 124 points to use in Dec 2009 - Nov 2010. Does the stay that I book have to be completed by Nov 2010, or do I just need to make the reservation by then?

Anyone have a good updated primer of DVC points?

I think Dave has a decent app to track points, right?

Those points would be good for stays that fall within your UY, generally you'd want to book those 11 months prior if you could. Unlikely some points systems, DVC counts points used on a per night basis so you cannot start a reservation in one UY and finish it in the next using points in the first UY only without having banked the points. Some points systems do this which can be quite a good way to extend points depending on your UY and travel plans. We started a 1 week stay in Gatlinburg on the last day of our UY for Bluegreen a couple of years ago and were able to use restricted points essentially for a fall colors week.

The four points you banked need to be used in your 2009-2010 use year. The 2009 points can be used or banked into your 2010-2011 use year. So if you don't want to lose the 4 points, a trip has to fall between 12/1/09 and 11/30/2010. You can then bank what's ever left over into your 2010 use year.

To answer the question directly, the stay must end on or before 11/30/2010.

The date you call to book doesn't matter. The dates of your stay must fall within the use year. Since you have a December use year, your 2009 points are to be used for vacations that begin on or after 12/1/2009 and end on or before 11/30/2010.

Of course, you can bank 2009 points to 2010 and then they can be used for stays that occur 12/1/2010 - 11/30/2011.

The points you banked into 2009 from 2008 expire on 11/30/2010. Those 4 points cannot be banked again.
