Forgive me if this has been asked a zillion times. Since weekends use so many points can dvc members pay cash for fridays and saturdays? Is there some sort of discount for members or is it always booked rack rate? Thanks.

DVC members can pay cash for weekends or any other night for that matter. I believe there is a 25% off rack rates.

As Brownie says, the member cash discount is 25% off rack. However, you cannot count on getting a discounted room. DVC only makes them available when it determines that not all the rooms will be reserved by members using points.

The cash discounts do seem to be available more often for Friday and Saturday nights than they ae for the weekday nights.

The member must be staying in the room - you cannot reserve a room with the cash discount for others.

That's a terrific discount if available. Our trips always run from saturday to saturday so this would probably be a good thing for us. Will they put the cash booking right onto the existing reservation? You don't have to change rooms do you? And also is this something that dvc frowns on? I mean do they hate it when members want to book their rooms like this? Thanks browniemtb and CarolMN. I appreciate your replys.

Yes, if you book the cash night through MS, your reservation will look like one continuous reservation as far as the resort goes. You will not have to change rooms.

MS doesn't care if members book for points or cash. I've always found the CMs to be professional and polite - occasionally you hear of a CM letting a bad day show, but it is realtively rare. No need for you to feel that you are doing something wrong by asking about the availability of cash discounted rooms. Lots of members do it. Some call periodically if they are not successful the first time they call. Sometimes more rooms are released for cash as it gets closer to the date.

If you will be using Fri and Sat for all or most of your trips I would think it would be more cost effective to add-on the required number of points. I think 50 is the minimum for an add on.This would cover one one trip for Fri and Sat in most cases.

Thanks everyone for sharing your wealth of knowledge with me. I am just in the learning stages here. We are taking our first steps at being owners. I guess add-ons will be down the road a bit but not too long I hope.
