We are going to book a reservation for Oct. We have enough points if we borrow from next year. I want to rent the points v. borrowing. My wife does not want to rent the points, so we are going back and fourth. We can’t decide. We want to book our reservation so we have the room. My question is this if we make the reservation now using borrowed points, but latter before we use (go) the reservation we rent points will DVC allow us to use the newly rented points and place the borrowed points back in our account.

In other words do we have to have the rented points transferred into our account before making our reservation?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Borrowing is a "final" transaction. Once your borrow points, they cannot be returned to their original use year. If the borrowed points are not used prior to the end of the use year into which they were borrowed, they expire. You could use them for another reservation, though as long as it was for a time prior to the end of your use year.

There are some other "technicalities" for using rented points for a reservation that is already made. Essentially, MS has to cancel the "old" reservation and make a new one using the transfered points. If there is a waitlist, you could lose the reservation.

Anyway, the answer to your question is that yes, you must have the rented points transferred into your account before you make the reservation - if you want to use the rented points for the reservation.

Best wishes -

P.S. Not sure why you don't want to borrow. Why not go ahead and borrow to make the reservation and then rent points to replace the borrowed points? That way, you won't have all the stress of getting the points to make the reservation - you can rent "at your leisure" and maybe get a better deal.

CarolMN, you are so right, We should go ahead and borrow. Next year rent points if we want to go. That is the real discussion now within the family, my wife is a little hesitant on committing to a second trip now. Thanks for your help.
