Ok, not really sure if this is posted in the right area, so i apologize at the start if it is....
I've used these boards for planning our trip last year and got great advice, so i'm at it again.
We'll be goin in september for a wedding at the GF. Anyways, I have a family member who works at WDW, so we are able to use his discount at the resorts, which is basically 50% off, but pay full taxes, great deal anyday! I have a friend who is willing to give me her remaining DVC points for 2011.
Sooo, my question is two-fold: can non DVC members use a DVC member's points towards their stay? And if so, does anyone out there know if DVC points can be combined with other discounts like my brothers?
He's asked around but so far no luck in a straight answer.

Yes and No.

Yes you can use the pts. The DVC member would have to make the reservation for you in your name.

No it can not be combined with your family member discount because there is no family member discount for pts. The discount is on a cash reservation. The pts is through DVC. 2 separate entities. You would be making 2 reservations, one for DVC and one for cash under the employee discount.

If you use the pts for GF, there is a $95 transaction charge. And the pts are more then staying at a DVC resort. Just something to think about.

technically, no - but the DVC member can make a reservation and put it in the nonmember's name. some DVC members do make reservations for family/friends or to rent out for money - the member still owns the reservation until the nonmember checks in.

but points are useless to a nonmember and member services will not speak to a nonmember - not to confirm the reservation or make requests or alter a reservation in any way.

so your friend can make a reservation for you but she will have to handle all the contact with the DVC side.

as stated above, a cash reservation made thru CRO is completely separate from a DVC point reservation made through MS. no discounts can be applied to points reservations...and no promos like free dining either.

Another wrinkle- AFAIK a CRO reservation can't be linked to a DVC MS reservation (points or member cash {which I've heard can be linked together}) so you would have to check out of the CRO ressie and check in under the DVC one, quite possible moving to a different room and having several hours where you didn't have a room... (Disney check out is usually 11 AM and DVC check in is 4 PM)
