Point transfer question

Do points transfered from one member to another keep their home resort and use year characteristics or do they become the same as your points with your use year?

My home resort is HH but I would need OKW points and the 11 month window to get into a GV. Could I purchase the points from a OKW owner, have them transfer the points, then I could make the 11 month reservation myself?

Any help and additional options would be appreciated.

Mind you I have never done this, but what I have gleened from the board leads me to believe it is a lot easier to have another DVCer make the res for you. In order to get the 11 month advantage, all the points must be from that resort (OKW in this case). You may wish to rent the required amount from a member and then bank or rent your own points. One thing to think about is what if you have all those points rented and transfered and a GV isn't available when you want..

Wish I could find the answer about point characteristics in the guidebook for you, but have looked repeatedly in the past without results. The nature of the point system tells me it would not work if folks switched points from month to month, resort to resort.. and that logic appears to be upheld in the boards where members ask and specify use years and resort.

Points transferred into your account retain the characteristics of their origin regardless of which Resort or use year they are transferred into. My experiencce has been that DVC has been unable to track use year orgin of the points so either have them transferred into an account with a later use year than the origin or keep good records so that you do not lose any usage. I will always have points transferred into my account rather than just renting them whenever possible. Don't forget that transferred points can be banked.

There are two answers. First, the official answer is that the transfers retain the home resort and use year of the original contract. however, as Gary noted, the computers are unable to trade this info currently. They definitely can't track home resort and may or may not be able to track use year. They can do both manually though if it's important.
