If this is the wrong forum to post this, my apologies. I am a non-dvc member looking to book a trip in a little less than 12 months. I had planned on renting points to book the stay but have a very close friend who is willing to accept a point transfer and book for me.

Am I correct in thinking this is a more secure way to complete this transaction since I will at least have some control over the reservation (through my good friends)? I know technically there can be no monetary exchange for the points (from Disney's perspective), do transfer buyers typically pay up front prior to the exchange? What is considered "best practice" for point transfer buyers to avoid getting scammed?

Thanks in advance,

Point transfers can be perceived to be riskier financially for both sides, as the person receiving the transfer may not make payment on an irreversable transaction, or the person you're getting the transfer from may simply take your money and not transfer. Because of this mutual risk, I think most transfer transaction require 50% payment before transfer and 50% immediately after transfer. That said, I've never personally heard of an actual problem with a transfer transaction You are correct that one the transfer is complete, that your friend would then have control of the reservation

Thanks Chuck,

That was my understanding, I just wanted to make sure I was not making things more complicated by involving a 3rd party. Is there typically a contract involved with a transfer or is it all on the honor system?

That would be up to the parties involved. While I personally neither rent nor transfer, if I were to do so, I think a simple contract would be a good idea.
