I am going to Costa Rica with Adventures by Disney next month. I need a waterproof point and shoot with great zoom. Most pictures will be taken from moving boats, rafts, and the bus, so that's important too. If possible, I'd like to keep it under $200, but can pay a little more if it makes a big difference. Thanks!

Hi,

I recommend a Sony TX20/30 [the TX30 is the newer model, but I own the TX20]. It's a compact P & S camera that IS waterproof with nice features and photo capabilities. The majority of my cameras are Sony, but because they work for me doesn't mean they will work for you, so don't limit yourself to one brand. I enjoy Sony's features, sensor and I'm familiar with their menu's, and they seem to fit you budget and request, which is why I am suggesting. Both the TX20 & TX30 are under your $200 threshold [Amazon has the TX30 for ~$198, which means you can probably buy the TX20 [if still available for a few dollars less?]

I hope you enjoy your trip and would love to see some pics here upon your return!!

ENJOY!!!

Heres a start for research

Waterproof cameras typically do not have much zoom due to the "Folded optics" in those slim designs (they still have a moving lens, but its sideways in the camera body)

The next step up would be the much, much more expensive Rx10. Its weather sealed, but that is only intended for a light sprinkle or mist when you are near (but not in) a waterfall....or there are SCUbA rated enclosures for many common cameras...but those add several hundred $ extra.

As mentioned, water proof cameras simply don't tend to have great zoom.
There are great weather resistant cameras, but most are over significantly $200.
Water proof cameras have a bunch of compromises in exchange for being affordable and water proof.
