I have a DSLR that I love but when I go to the parks, some days I just don't want to carry that around. I want to get a point and shoot as a second camera. I was looking for some recommendations for one that has a pretty high mega pixel set up and a nice optical zoom. Any thoughts?

Look at the G-series Canons. I have heard they produce fine quality images and are a step above the typical P&S. Having a dSLR, you will want something that can give you high quality otherwise you may be disappointed in the results when you compare output from each camera. The G-series has a larger sensor than many other P&S and provide the control a dSLR user is accustomed to. Just know that it's reach is about 210mm whereas other P&Ss can get up to 430mm (35mm equivalent), notably the S5IS.
