POFQ.... how quiet is "quiet"?

Hi. After 5 weeks of agonising over where to stay at WDW (on site or off site, if on site then where? etc. etc.!) I have finally decided on Port Orleans French Quarter... staying there June 26th to July 6th. Well, I'm as "decided" as I'll ever be. No doubt I'll go through many more doubts between now and June! It's so hard to choose a place! For now though (!) I love the sound of the POFQ resort and it seems to meet our needs.

One question though...... I have read many positive reports on the resort with many people reporting that it's "tranquil" and "quiet". I must say this worries me just a tad! Exactly how quiet is it? We don't want somewhere *too* quiet. We want the Disney buzz and a nice holiday atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, we don't want raucous insanity either!! Will we get a good holiday atmosphere there? There's me, hubby, 11 year old son, 8 year old son and baby who will be 15 months by then.

Thanks in advance. First post (of many I'm sure!). :wave2: :confused3

I found it to be very quiet the last time I was there. I am a light sleeper and get real whiney about a poor nights sleep, I had no issues at POFQ. As you see on my sig, I am going to be staying there in less than...drumroll please, 4 months.

Welcome to the DIS, DebIreland!

I've stayed at the POFQ four times, and yes, it is a peaceful resort. The rooms are very soundproof--in all the times I've stayed there, I can only recall hearing my neighbors twice. So, when you're ready for bed, you should be able to get a good nights sleep.

As for the resort itself, it will be bustling with activity in areas where you would expect it to--at the food court, pool, and other public areas. Near the rooms, it should be pretty quiet (unless you are overlooking the poll).

I think when people say it is quiet and tranquil, they are referring to the grounds. It is beautifully laid out, as only Disney can do, and pretty. We could not hear anyone in the adjoining rooms at any time of the day while we were there. But out at the food court there was plenty of noise and activity. Also at the pool. Lots of noise, happy children, and people coming and going.

I think you will be happy with your choice. We were!

Oh, and welcome to the DIS Deb! :wave2:

We found it to be very quiet in the area by our room--except for the inconsiderate idiot rolling the Radio Flyer across the cobblestones at 6:00am on Sunday morning! The pool area was quiet because it was on the cool side and there wasn't anyone swimming. The food court was like a typical food court.

It was quiet where and when it should have been (except for above mentioned idiot), but not so much that you'd worry about disturbing anyone by swimming or enjoying the resort.

Welcome DebIreland! Thanks for your question because I had the same one! You sound like my DH and I. We've changed our minds on where we were staying at least 50 times! Good luck sticking to your decision until June!! :smooth:

Thanks a million everyone. This is a great board. I feel a lot better now and I totally *get* what you're all saying about it being quiet where it should be and bustling where you'd expect. That is truly what I was hoping for. Really excited now!!! Can't believe I'm finally going to WDW, I've wanted to go there for decades. Can hardly wait! :hyper:

Hey Shardiva, "We've changed our minds on where we were staying at least 50 times!" - Tell me about it!!! I thought I was losing my mind that last few weeks... I couldn't stop thinking, talking and dreaming about Disney and every time I *knew* for *definite* where we were staying I then went and said "well, hmmmmmm, I dunno....".... at least now I've narrowed that much down!!!! Good luck to you too on all your Disney decisions.

It's perfect! You are going to have a great time. I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I said to my DH recently, how about we try the Boardwalk for our next trip, and he said, well we could go there for a couple of nights if you want but I really want to go back to French Quarter for the majority of the trip
