I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread on this yet - sorry in advance if I missed it. Anyway, what do you guys think? Personally, I'm not a fan of either one and these 2 are some of my favorite characters. Honestly if I saw Mulan in Epcot I would have no clue it's her. She looks nothing like the movie. And I can't handle how Pocahontas doesn't have her mother's necklace and is also now bedazzled. Have any of you seen the new looks in person? I wonder why they decided to change them? I liked the old looks.

If this was cosplay, I would be fine with it. But for Disney themselves... they don't have to look exactly like the movies but this is the other end. Pretty girls dressing up in Native American and Chinese costumes. And definitely not a fan of blinging up Pocahontas, that hairpiece? Getting rid of her statement necklace?

Mulan's is fine, except for the bottom part of the skirt. I think the old dress was more similar to her pink dress in the movie, though, and I like that. Pocahontas? Not a fan. Agree that she needs to have her mother's turquoise necklace. I don't like the new stuff for her hair and feel that her old dress looked much more like the one in the movie. Honestly, I'd consider it more of a Pocahontas-inspired outfit than Pocahontas.

I'm okay with Poca's new dress (prefer the old one as it is closer to the one she wears in the movie, but it's fine), but as others have mentioned it makes zero sense that she is no longer wearing her mother's necklace. I mean, if they were going to bedazzle it or whatever -- which again, makes zero sense -- couldn't they have at least kept it turquoise? And, I'm sorry, that hair piece has got to go. I don't like.

As for Mulan: that dress is so random. It's pretty, but it looks nothing like anything she actually wore in the movie. Not sure I would recognize her if I saw her in the parks either. I've always felt that Mulan would be best represented if she met in her "Ping" outfit as opposed to her "matchmaker" dress, anyhow. I get that for all intents and purposes, she's supposed to be a "princess", but I feel like they're missing the point.

I like Pocahontas' dress, but at least the gem should have been turquoise in color. For Mulan, it looks like they kept the color scheme but didn't apply it properly. The ribbon belt should be blue while the blue portion of the skirt should be the deep red/maroon-ish color. In both attempts, it looks like the company was trying to make the outfits look more "realistic" to the cultures, perhaps? (In a blinged-out, princess-y, not-very-realistic-actually kind of way.) Swing and a foul ball on both - they hit parts of them and aren't complete misses but not home runs, either.

I always (almost) prefer the old, but I really don't mind these.
They are very pretty

The only thing I mind about Pocahontas is the changed necklace.

I don't like the new Mulan outfit at all. She didn't wear anything like that in the movie that I recall. I'd rather meet her in the Ping getup anyway.

Mulan has a very pretty dress but it looks like nothing she ever wore in the movie.

I feel like there would be an uproar if snow white wore some random dress she didn't wear in her movie.

Pocahontas has a nice new dress too, but once again not like the movie.

I don't understand what disney is doing with those costumes. I thought the characters were supposed to be reminiscent of the movie character. If I saw that mulan on the street I would never say 'oh that's mulan'. I would think it was a girl is an old fashioned sort of Chinese looking dress.

Do they just want to sell these new dresses? That's the explanation I'll go with. Both very pretty but not representative of the characters.

I'm not a fan of either, I think they tried to "princess" up Mulan and I really don't like the necklace change for Pocahontas. The dress itself is ok, but with the new necklace its all wrong.
I agree with this. It seems like they wanted Mulan's dress to be more princess-y...

One time I was in the China pavilion in the exhibit room where the terracotta warriors are and a girl came by in traditional Chinese dress. She smiled at me, and I just thought she worked at one of the stores or something. I thought, "That girl could play Mulan." After she walked out her handler walked out as well and I realized that she was Mulan! The thing is, I never think of Mulan in her Matchmaker outfit, and I agree it would be more appropriate for her to be wearing something else. That's like the whole point of the movie.

I also wonder why this is happening. If this was to sell more princess dresses to little girls I don't get it as the old version of these dresses was hardly available.

Especially for Mulan's new dress, if it becomes available, I think parents would be reluctant to buy it as it looks very warm. And as most of the princess dresses not very comfortable.

When I was younger I would have made my mom buy me Mulan's warrior outfit. I had no interest in princess dresses. I think disney is missing out on the market. Mulan doesn't have to have a princess gown to move merchandise.

Amen to that. I was a little 'old' for princesses by the time Mulan's movie came out (I think I was in 8th grade), but I would have totally worn her warrior outfit as a Halloween costume!
