on a list with mostly blend-short vowel and blend- long vowel-silent e words, how do I explain to her that child does NOT have a silent e?


and why does it have world when the /er/ combinations have not been introduced or taught so she has NO CLUE if it is supposed to be er, or, ir, or ur?

Well, I do have a special nickname for you, but the filters won't let me use it, and I would be in trouble for bypassing if I tried to get around them.


Scraps, teach them as memorization only.......not ruled words. Quite simply, those are recognizable to me as words they must read on an end of year test we give. Likely your state gives a similar one. They must have the same word list. That's why she has them.

Scraps, teach them as memorization only.......not ruled words. Quite simply, those are recognizable to me as words they must read on an end of year test we give. Likely your state gives a similar one. They must have the same word list. That's why she has them.

She can READ them, she just can't spell them. memorization is not her strong suit. And especially with the fact that all the other words are following a "rule" so she can't remember that one on the list won't. I think I just won't sweat her spelling grade. Hopefully Harvard won't look at her 2nd grade spelling scores
