My 12 DD (soon to be 13) is in need of new swimwear.
I am having terrible luck trying to find something for her. She is a little plus size and doesnt want to show off her stomach. It seems that everything out there for a girl her age is a bikini or tankini. She would rather just have a one-piece, but they seems to stop at size 14. She needs more of a 16, but then you get into lady sizes and they just look too old.
Anyone have a pre-teen/teen with a similar issue that has had luck finding swimsuits??

Thanks!

Have you tried Lands End?

I got a catalogue on their swimwear in February and they had all sorts and sizes for all members of the family.

have you looked at Lands End.. they go up to size 20 and they have some of their one pieces on sale!

No personal experience with this, but when looking for swimsuits for my DD I noticed that both LLBean and Lands End go up to either 16 or 18, so maybe you could look there.

Have you tried looking at Old Navy? I was just shopping there with my friend and we saw some nice plus sized swim wear. We saw quite a few stylish, one pieces in the adult section. Could your DD fit into an adult sized swim suit? We also saw some plus sized children's swimsuits including this one which I think it sorta cute:

Target might have some options too!

If worse comes to worse, you should be able to find a flattering tankini that covers the stomach.

If feel your pain- I was tall for my age and by 13 my "girls" were larger than most girls my age. Finding a swimsuit was always incredibly tough and frustrating.

Are you a member of Costco? Our Costco has one piece Speedo swimsuits that go up to size 20. They have plain ones that come in one color (black, blue, purple, Etc) plus many different prints that are very cute IMO.

I also love this website: http://www.swimsuitsforall.com/

I like the Justice tankini which has a cut in the back that allows the front top apron like portion to skim the body without hugging any curves which seems to happen because of the open back below the halter. One pieces show everything, same goes for a bikini but this sort covers everything from the halter top down:thumbsup2 I picked this style because my 11 yr old DD is developing early but I would think the style would be flattering to almost any body type. The one I got her this year is a "Cross Your Heart" tankini swimsuit. The size tops at 16 but I think you can find the same style in other brands, it's the style that I think is most flattering, the brand means nothing to me.

alight.com and torrid.com tend to have a good selection geared for teens, but they don't have them posted yet. If she wants athletic style, junonia.com sometimes has some good choices.

Lands End can be a good choice, particularly their new sport line. The really serious control styles that they offer are a bit old for the average kid that age. (Heck, they can look old on me, and I'm in my 40's.)

I just ordered my dd the swim shirts and shorts from Lands End. She's average in size but is ver self-conscience in swimwear. She got 2 shirts and 2 shorts and 1 tankini top.

Also check out Old Navy's website. I am plump and have found some great fitting swimwear from them that covered all I wanted covered.

My DD has the exact same problem. She does not have the anatomy yet for anything Junior sized and womans sizing fits her weird plus she has a bit of tween chub going on.

My best luck has been with Sears - they carry a whole line of girls plus - 16.5& 18.5. Justice is hit or miss, I did buy DD a suit size 18 there last month as a last resort, Sears didn't have theirs out yet and she is in a swim club. The Sears plus line is perfect for that age.

I have a tummy and I find tankinis to be way more flattering than one pieces. She should try some on.

JC Penney or Speedo and you can get the Speedo at Penney's in the plus size. And also Lands End but they are a bit more pricey.

My DD was built the same way at her age plus she was short so if we went to a bigger size it would be too long so she needed the plus or 1/2 sizes.
