I haven't been to WDW since I was 17 and was considerably smaller. I recently had gastric bypass surgery (5 months ago) and have lost 115 pounds and now about 285 pounds. I haven't ridden a roller coaster in years, because face it, at 400 pounds, you simply don't fit.

Are the rides at WDW comfortable for us bigger boned folks? I really want to enjoy myself and ride as much as I can with my 8 year old daughter, but I don't want to embarrass either one of us trying to smash my body into a ride.

What do y'all think?

First, congratulations on your awesome success!

Now, just go and have fun. Being close to the same size as you are, I have never had any issues what so ever! I have ridden all the mountains, kiddie rides, etc. For rides with seat belts, just pull the belt all the way out before latching.

Hi!

http://allearsnet.com/tp/ridsiz.htm

There are pictures of all of the ride vehichles which should give you a good idea & there is a section on this topic there as well.

My mom is a heavy woman, I'm not sure of her exact weight but I'd guess 200 lbs. She has never had a problem on any of the rides.

I also have a close guy friend who is about 270 lbs and he has never mentioned having any problems and did talk about going on many rides.

Have a GREAT trip :) !!!

TxKimmie:

Congratulations on your weight loss success!

I was concerned about the same thing when we went in August, but I was relieved to find that everything was able to accomodate plus size people. My DH and I are both heavy and the only place it was an issue was on Kali River Rapids in AK... we just couldn't sit in the same belt - almost but not quite. In your case, I'm sure you and your DD would be able to ride together. I just look at it this way - yes, I'm a plus size woman, but I'm not any bigger than a slightly overweight man and they are everywhere!

Enjoy your trip and don't give another thought to whether you'll be embarassed - WDW is very sensitive to this issue... we total over 500 lbs (DH & I) and nobody even batted an eye at us.

I hope you and your daughter have a magical vacation!

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS on your weight loss!!

I am returning to WDW in September with many family members (10 in total) who have never been to WDW, and they were worried about fitting in the seats.

I confirm that by visiting http://allearsnet.com/tp/ridsiz.htm you will have a good idea about the size of the rides, but also, at Universal Studios, some of the rides actually have a 'tester' seat at the entrance of the ride for you to try out before you line up. I did this, and I fitted, but it would have saved a lot of bother if i didnt fit.

I hope this is of some use to you, and remember, its YOUR vacation (or holiday as we brits call it) and NOTHING will be able to spoil it!:sunny:

So have a great time, and let us know how it goes.

I am 6 feet tall and weighed 285 and I had no problem in Sept. of '03. Congratulations on your loss!! Have you signed up for WISHES? It is a great motivational tool!

Keep of the good work!

As a larger person the only ride where I really felt uncomfortable was on test track. The small width of the seats along with no leg room made for a painful ride. I was 275 lbs. at the time and I am 5' 9". It was one of those experiences that motivates you to lose weight. I don't think I'll have the same problem in May as I've lost 40 lbs. Congratulations on your weight loss and enjoy your trip!

Don't worry anymore...My Dh is 400+ and had no trouble anywhere...except Sea World's Kraken but EVERYTHING at WDW was great and we had no complaints. I'm also a 4x woman and I'm 5'10" and even rode BarnStormer.

The only place we did not like was the Teacups but besides that WDW is a fabulous place for Big people.

Congrats on the weight loss.:wave2:
