Plunging elevators, runaway trains, speeding cars,+Haunted Mansions! April 2012

It's so good to see you back on the Dis! I actually thought about you a couple of days ago when I was going through the list of my subscribed threads and saw your trip reports.

I'm glad to see that a trip is still in the works. We've been to Disney during November (Thanksgiving week) but that was way back in 2000 when they didn't put the Christmas decorations out until the day after Thanksgiving. So, I have no good tips to offer for November travel.

I am looking forward to hearing all of your details.

Oh, you'll love the water taxi to DTD!! I think we did that at least 4 times!!! And at night it is really beautiful! It's even beautiful in the rain. Yep, that's one thing I am very happy about with staying at POFQ --- the water taxi is still available!! :worship:

Yeah I cannot wait! POFQ looks even prettier and that pool slide looks amazing. (You'll definitely need your floaties for that one) If that hotel slept 5 we'd probably go for that one. Although POR and POFQ do share so I know we can go use their slide, but we probably won't.

Yup very exciting to be definitely going back this year. I was getting excited as we were thinking about next June......obviously I got too excited cause I couldn't wait that long. Glad to have you on my PTR.

So me and the girls just spent a little while going through restaurants! I'm the only one left still sitting here of course, that didn't really hold their interest :lmao: And now...i'm hungry. I'm actually home from work tonight. My stomach hasn't felt well since last night and I have a ripping sore throat!!! It's horrible. Manny's out getting more cough drops right now. Anyway I had so much fun with the restuarants that I moved onto snacks. Last time we went I didn't make a list of where certain things were. I NEED to try a dole whip. Funnel cakes are on the list and all of the slushies, floats and smoothies sound lovely!! This time we'll know where to find everything.

I'll post a list later of the counter service restaurants that are on my list.

Looking at where to eat and snack is one of the best parts of planning a trip!! Don't forget Goofy's Candy Company in DTD for chocolate dipped pretzels and GIANT rice krispy treats! :thumbsup2

Goofy's Candy Company is on our list! Funny thing is we did visit it the last time we went but it was half way through the week and my kids were just so stuffed and sick of sweets that neither of them wanted those big hunk of treats. We left Goofy's with a slushie! :rotfl: Now my kids do eat treats and snacks at home, they're deprived by no means when it comes to that. BUT there were just WAY too many snack credits on the QSDP. Not that i'm complaining. I'll just make sure we don't have any big snacks/desserts this time before we head to Goofy's!

Ok so in looking through all the counter service restaurants I picked which ones we'd like to eat from. We may or may not get to all of them depending on whethr we go with the QSDP or the DDP. But just so I can have a list of which ones I want to try. Emily is a very picky eater so I had to go through and make sure there were things she'll eat. She's getting better at being willing to try things, but i'd hate to go sit down to eat and she doesn't. So here's the list, feel free to comment on what you think. If you've eaten there and it was terrible please do let me know so I can avoid it :goodvibes

Magic Kingdom:

Columbia Harbor House
Cosmic Rays (ate here in 09)
Pecos Bills
Pinnochio Village Haus
Tortuga Tavern (ate here in 09)

Animal Kingdom:

Yak and Yets CS
Flame Tree BBQ
Pizzafari (ate here in 09)

Epcot:

La Cantina de San Angel
Liberty Inn
Electric Umbrella (ate here in 09)

DHS:

ABC Commissary
Backlot Express
Pizza Planet (ate here in 09)

DTD:

Wolfgang puck express
Earl of Sandwich

And i've heard great things about POR's foodcourt. So i'm excited about that. I was looking at their menu and that made me HUNGRY!

Also if you have any favorite CSs that arent' on my list feel free to post them! I don't wanna miss out on any.

Oh I thought I saw a pic somewhere of a restaurant in AK that when you were eating you had a view of Everest? Am i going crazy or does one really exist?

Pam have you seen the 2011 Confirmed Snack Credit list here on the Dis? the original poster has a complete list of items you can purchase by using your snack credits. I was surprised at how many non-sweet things were there.

Aww, you guys will LOVE POR! Request Alligator Bayou building 14 or 15-- I think they're both preferred buildings, but if you only pay for a regular room, they won't charge you if they upgrade you at check in (that's what happened to us!). They're both VERY close to the main building/bus stop!
In regards to your CS spots:
Columbia Harbor House is SO yummy! Also, now you can get chicken parm at Pinocchio's! If you do the QSDP, it's a great value for a filling dinner!
Liberty Inn is just standard chicken nuggets and fries, but they have some interesting options, too. It's decorated nicely, too! La Cantina looks SO yummy!
Pizza Planet is our favorite DHS CS. I love that you can get salads with your pizza. Also-- I'm a NY pizza snob and think their pizza is actually really good!
WPE is SO yummy-- so many choices and since they bring you the food, you feel like you're eating TS. Huge portions, too.
POR's food court is terrific-- I love the "make your own pasta" station!
Girl-- you'll love the Dole Whip! So refreshing.

Yes I did. I actually skimmed through it because it's so long, but i'm going to go back and look throug it some more. I was suprised at how much was there. Thanks!

Yeah I did see that those buildings in POR were now considered preffered but we're going to book standard, request those and hope for the best. If not, that's ok.

Thanks for your reviews. Chicken Parm at Pinnochio's sounds great. La Cantina is a definite. The view while eating looks lovely. And yes I did see that Liberty Inn was pretty much regular stuff, but with picky eaters that will be good for us too. Plus, there aren't too many restuarants in Epcot that my kids will eat from. In 09 we tried Yakitori house.....mistake only 3 of us ate. The ginger cake was awesome there though. As soon as we get to the MK i' going for a dole whip!!!!!

Good choices! I have heard good things about most of those CS places and some of them are on our list as well! :thumbsup2

Did you know they are refurbing POR too?!?!? They may or may not be totally finished by November, but that would be cool for you!

We've been in Building 16 at POR for both of our trips. It's a great location and has a quiet pool just outside.

I second the vote for the Create-Your-Own Pasta station at the POR foodcourt....YUM!

Sunshine Seasons at Epcot has a ton of choices and lots of fresh veggies, salads, etc. And, if you are on QSDP, it has some more "fancy" options than burgers and chicken if you need a change.

Definitely check out the thread with the list of confirmed snacks....I was very surprised at how many different things were available. If you like spicy, DHS has a jalapeno soft pretzel that is DELICIOUS! :thumbsup2

Yes the create your own pasta station will be a favorite for Emily and Lizzie. They love pasta. I'll go check out the Sunshine Seasons menu too. I think i'm gettting more excited about the snack options popcorn::

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I was talking to the kids today and Mickey's very merry christmas party was mentioned. And as we LOVE Christmas, Halloween is a BIG DEAL around here for us. Emily said Oh I wish we could go to the Halloween Party. WHICH GOT ME THINKING..........SHOULD WE CONSIDER OCTOBER INSTEAD.... Oh my word. I can't get anything straight!

Is there more of a chance for free dining? The weather will be nicer. We would be looking at the last week, coming home a day or two before Halloween. Crowd levels look excellent too. I know I have a few good options here. I"m just sooo confused. I'm also thinking about airfare and how it may be cheaper in october than the week before Thanksgiving. I guess we'd be looking at October 22-29 or the 23-30. Just gotta get home for Halloween night. We go trick or treating in a big group and we all look forward to it.

COMMENTS....CONCERNS....QUESTIONS ON WHY I CAN' DECIDE ON A WEEK:banana: BUT AS YOU NOTICE EVERY TIME MY MIND CHANGES OUR DISNEY WEEK GETS CLOSER AND CLOSER :rotfl:

September 8 through 19th works out the best!!!! ;););););););) Gee, I wonder who else is going at that time???? And a certain someone's family will be at POFQ.... a hop, skip and a jump from POR!!! An EASY VISIT for another family to visit!!!! ---- I'm just saying....................

Oh my god Ann I wish I could choose those dates!!! My brother is getting married on October 8. And I actually just looked up the state testing dates for our school cause I know that's in October and they ended on the 17th last year and always follow the same schedule, so it would definitely have to be after that. Hmmm! I'm really thinking about this date switch. The only thing i'm concerned about is I won't have the money to purchase airfare until the end of September. So i'd be booking that 4 weeks out from our trip? What do you think about that. Is that scary. I mean if we go in November i'd be booking 8 weeks out, so not much difference there either. I have no choice though? If it's any sooner than that it would possibly be August. The option to drive is always there. I have considered it before. It's last resort right now, i'd rather fly, but I always have that to fall back on.

We are going in October...the 15-22 to be exact. My first choice was actually September (long story) but the more and more I started planning I realized that October is an ideal time to go. I would agree that the crowds would be small and the weather nice. I think In Nov. you run slightly more of a risk of it not being quite warm enough to swim (Just my opinion). I would love to go to Disney when the Christmas decorations are up, but I am equally excited about going during Halloween time...not to mention the Food & Wine Festival!

For what it's worth, my vote would be to make the switch to October....nothing like shaving off a few weeks in one fail swoop! :rotfl2:

Hi pixiedust, thanks for joining me! See when we go to Disney we LOVE to swim and if it's not pool weather i'll be a little dissappointed. At least that's what I feel, i'm sure once we were there we wouldn't mind too much. So i'm thinking, yes, we'll have much more of a chance for warmer temps in October. And as much as we'd love the Christmas party, my kids would really really really LOVE to dress up and do the Halloween party!

I remember looking at your Halloween pictures and how much your family enjoyed that time of the year. I can certainly see why you would be considering a trip during Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. How much fun that would be!

And, like you said, you'd have a better chance at having some pool time if you traveled during that time of the year too.

Ok so in thinking a little more about dates, I remembered a very special little date.... Which is my little Lexi's birthday a few days before Halloween. I could not miss that. So that kind of makes the 22nd-29th a little iffy. We "could" go right before Halloween and spend Halloween day there. I thought of that but then wondered how my kids would feel cause we always LOVE to go trick or treating in our big group here. So I mentioned this morning about MAYBE TRYING to go in October for Halloween. I mentioned Lexi's bday and told them we'd have to go at the end of October. They're so sweet, Emily said, we couldn't miss our cousin's birthday party. I asked them if they'd want to be back home for Halloween night or spend it in Disney..... and I did get a SPEND IT IN DISNEY. So that is now an option. We'd maybe go October 29-November 4.

I think we're also all set for not having to wait until the end of September for airfare. Should be able to purchase it in June as well as paying the whole trip off (as long as there's free dining) :dance3:
