What do you do once you have boarded and your name is called? I hear you can not go to your room right away. So what is your favorite first task once aboard?

Some passengers wear their swim suits under their clothes and head directly for the pools. Others go eat lunch. If you board after the rooms are available (about 1:30-ish) you can drop off your carry-ons then go explore the ship.

I headed to guest services to book my meet and greet for the princesses, then we headed to the buffet for lunch and explored the ship a little since it was our first time on board

When we first board, we will make sure any dining room changes are taken care of first - for example checking to see if we received our request of a table for two, or to book Palo brunch if we were unsuccessful in getting one in advance. We also go and sign up for any adult tasting seminars we are interested in. We usually split up to do this to get it done faster. If you want to participate in the ticketed meet and greets this would be the time to pick up tickets. Once this is over we usually head to one of the restaurants for a quite lunch, and by this time, usually the staterooms are open, if not, we will find a nice spot in a lounge and just relax and read the navigators while we wait. After we've dropped our luggage in our stateroom, we like to head to the spa for the raffle and to pick up our rain forest room cruise pass. Before the muster drill I do like to try to get unpacked as much as possible.

If the kids head for the Aquaduck first thing, instead of lunch, when would they have to finish up in order to still make lunch service?

I believe Cabanas stops serving at 2:00. However, bear in mind that the AquaDuck isn't always open first thing when you board. So you may need to switch it up and eat first while waiting for the AQ to open.

I just looked at a recent Navigator - Cabanas was open until 3 on the first day.

We go to the buffet to eat. Usually the kids take right off after lunch, so DH and I will venture to the adult pool bar to kick off the trip with a frozen drink for dessert. If we need anything done downstairs (gift cards on our account at guest services, sign up for CC 5K at port adventures, etc...) we will do that and then finish up around 1:30, in time to go to our room.

I thought lunch ended about 3 so the CM can get ready for the lifeboat drill at 4.

For those using pools persuasive what do you do with your cruise demonstration paperwork, passports etc

We go to Cabanas for lunch first thing. It is sort of a tradition for us and my son (13) has what he likes to call, "the welcome home lunch" . :)
Then we sign up for any beverage tastings (DH is a Cognac fan) and if we are on a 7 night cruise, I get the Rainforest pass for the week.
The kids will start a Detective agency hunt and at some point the cabin is opened up and ready.
I wait for the luggage so I can unpack and send the kids and DH back out to finish the Detective agency thing. He grabs a drink or two while they are searching. :)
(They really seem to still enjoy that activity even though they have done it multiple times each cruise)
Once I unpack and organize, I am officially on vacation and relax.
We will hang out on the verandah and wait for the drill or go up to 11 and grab an ice cream cone (or in the case of my kids, both big and teens, many cones) . The kids can swim if they want, but after the first cruise when they were still wet from the pool AND it was crowded, they just wait until a little later when first seating is happening for dinner. They will swim for awhile and then get ready for dinner.

I hope you have a great cruise!

man, I have a ton of reading up to do. Sounds like there are plenty of options.

If your room isn't available, you keep your stuff in a carry-on or backpack next to your deck chair. We usually give all our luggage to the porters, except for one carry-on with our documents, I-pad, camera, meds, and jewelry. Oh, and our week's supply of Diet Dr. Pepper stays with us too, since it isn't supposed to be checked. It's on its own wheeled collapsible luggage cart. When we wheeled it into lunch on embarkation day the waiters all wanted some. (They were just teasing.)
