I had mentioned this story in a post a few weeks ago, but I just want to remind everyone to please wear your seatbelts whenever you are in a car. My dh's 32 y.o. cousin passed away yesterday after being in a coma since April. She was driving home from work, hit a patch of black ice, went off the road, hit a tree and was not wearing a seatbelt. She went through the windshield and had severe brain damage. She never regained consciousness. Her family has gone through a terrible ordeal and now has lost a daughter, sister, mother and friend.

Please, I know the story about messing up your clothes, not being comfortable etc, ( I always used to say the same thing) but now I faithfully buckle up every time. I'm sorry that it took an accident hitting so close to make me realize how important a seat belt can be.

Thanks,
Nancy

I'm so sorry for your family's loss.:(
Thanks for the good reminder.
A seatbelt saved my life 2 years ago... I ALWAYS wear mine.

4cruisin, I'm so sorry to hear that! But I totaly agree! My mom made me wear mine as a kid, and now I put it on without even thinking about it! I good friend of mine walked away from two serious accidents all because she wore her belt! Without it, she'd have been a goner! Even with it, the paramedics were amazed she walked away from the 2nd one w/out a scratch on her, the car was un-recognizable! Her only injury-- a bruise from the seat belt!

I remember your first post about this. :( I'm sorry to hear she didn't pull out of the coma. :(

Sorry to hear of her death. Seatbelts do save lives. I see it on a regular basis.

My DW and I are fanactics about wearing our seatbelts. I was in one wreck several years ago and the seatbelts prevented any serious injury. My DS was in another wreck two years ago and the combinantion of seat belts and an airbag prevented him from being seriously injured.

I'm absolutely horrified when I see someone on the road without a seatbelt. I simply can't understand that mindset. My seatbelt certainly helped me escape serious injury in an accident a few years back. I'd rather have seatbelt burns or bruises than more serious injuries.

As a racing fan, I know how vitally important seatbelts are - racing drivers are the best at handling cars, but they wouldn't dream of going out on track without belts. There's a reason for that.

Sorry about your DH's cousin, but thanks for the reminder. I always buckle up -- seatbelts saved my dad from servious injury 9 years ago.

So sad, so preventable. Sorry to hear she did not make it, Nancy. :( My prayers and best wishes for her family and friends left behind. Belts do work.

I'm so sorry about your dh's cousin. My DH's sister's first husband died in a accident and wasn't wearing a seabelt. His car flipped end-for-end 7 times and he was thrown several hundred feet. A seat belt would have kept him from being ejected. Two others in his car also died after being ejected. It was horrible seeing how this devasted my SIL and their 3 yo daughter. She has grown up not knowing her dad and not having many memories of him.

Please buckle up. If not for yourself, do it for those you love.
