Please tell me if this is a good price on this car

Can anyone give me a good estimate if this is a good deal for this car?


2007 Jeep Compass 2.4 engine
automatic, 42,000 miles
no bells or whistles at all (does have alloy wheels)
really good condition, been kept in a garage

They are asking 9800.00, private party seller

We use NADAguides.com. Is it 4WD? That will make a difference. Just go through and add all the options. I would not expect to pay more than the "clean trade" price for the car in a private sale.

I've always used Edmunds because I was told they took what others paid (by way of DMV taxes and estimate the true market value?

Then I price it like Edmunds suggest. If Edmunds says 9900 PP, then I'm good with that.
If you can meet somewhere in the middle of trade in value and private party value, I think it's a good deal.

What I've noticed is people want almost RETAIL dealer lot price for private party sale. They think just because that is what a car is going on at a dealers lot, then they should be able to get retail price.

They don't take into account the dent doctor, carpet man, mechanics have looked it over , etc. at a car lot.
