I am making my first reservation for my home resort- SSR- we are getting 2 bedroom the Sunday after Christmas and checking out the Sunday after New Years. I want to call 11 months before my check out date. Will I have any trouble?

I would call day by day if you really want it.

That way if you get waitlisted you won't be kicking yourself for having waited.

You'll be wanting to kick someone else, and that's much healthier.

You probably won't have to call day by day to get SSR at 11 months.

On the other hand, my understanding is that the week between Christmas and New Years is the single busiest week at WDW for attendance. I'm assuming for WDW resort bookings as well. Of course, DVC busiest times don't always line up with WDW's busiest times.

I think you'll be all right without calling day by day. Just want you to make an informed decsion. :)

Call day by day so that you do a happy dance that you got the reservation instead of kicking yourself. It is level 10 out of 10 for crowds that week. People gotta stay somewhere...

Now I am scared- My 1st 2 days are in Premier season (DEC 30 & 31)- but my last 5 are Adventure. (Jan. 1-6) We are planning on avoiding the parks until the Jan. 1st or 2nd- will we really be seeing huge crowds :< I may rethink my entire trip if that is the case.

The crowds at WDW from Christmas through New Year's Eve are probably the largest of the year. People are in Florida from all over the world not just for WDW but for the many bowl games and bowl parades taking place throughout Florida. They all find their way to the WDW parks -- even if they aren't staying on-site. New Year's Day you'll see a big drop off though it doesn't become the ghost town it once did.

I would be sure to call at the 11 month window to guarantee your room for Dec 30 and most especially for Dec. 31. 12/31 is pretty much 100% occupance throughout WDW. Folks from driving distance will come to WDW to celebrate NYE and, of course, stay over if possible. The rest of your trip you can probably wait and book in one call.

So, you are looking to check in on 12/30/07 and check out 1/7/08?

I expect you won't have any trouble calling at the 11 month mark from 1/7/08, but those dates around New Year's are gonna be busy. But SSR is so big that you will surely be able to land what you want any time in the 7-11 month window, I would expect. I mean, we're not talking about BWV Standard View or BCV/ VWL here where the 11 month mark is an absolute must, especially for busy times like Xmas-New Year's. Heck, you might even be able to switch over to the new AKV at the 7 month mark. Seriously, SSR any time in the 11 month window ought to be just fine, which IMO is one of the great advantages there: you're not gonna get shut out, even at busy times. Plus it's a gorgeous resort. Sounds like a fun time.

Enjoy!

Make the first night and then call back a few days later for the other nights. I don't think you have to do day by day for a 2 bedroom at SSR at 11 months. If you were trying for a GV, that might be different. But for a two bedroom, I'd bet you'd be okay calling at the end.

I am about to book for the week before Christmas and will be doing it day by day. Better safe than sorry. Plus it is not that difficult. I feel it is worth the extra few minutes per day.

If you are talking about VWL, I agree, day by day is important. SSR, not so important because of the size of the resort. VWL is so much smaller.

If I know my dates in advance of the 11/7 month booking window, I figure that I might as well book day-by-day. Otherwise, I tend to spend the day worrying about whether someone else is grabbing the ressie that I want!

That said, I usually don't worry about calling first thing in the AM but that is because I am on the West Coast. Also, I don't worry too much if I miss a day for one reason or another.

Best of luck -- Suzanne

I have been a dvc member since 1994 and have spent 6 xmas weeks at OKW (including the last 4) and have never called day by day. I have never had to wait list, but I have called at 11 month window for 3 of the 6 xmas weeks, the others 3 I made at the end of the summer and again , had no problem. 5 were in a 2 bdroom and one was a studio. I have never called day by day for ANY reservation that I have made. Even when I called for BCV in June. I think that BWV may require for the preferred views, but this is not a priority for us. I also think that to do this on a regular basis only ties up MS.

You do not need to call day by day at the 11 month mark to get a 2 bedroom at SSR. One call will be fine.
