On March 27th, my husband had tingling/numbness on his right side from his shoulder to his foot, but actually the couple of days prior he felt tightness in his calf. Never blurred vision, never pain, never a headache. He called me, I was in Florida at the time. I missed his calls. When I saw I had missed calls from him I called back. He told me an ambulance was on its way because "someone" told him he was having a stroke. Though his vitals were fine in the ambulance.
He got to the hospital which is the worst hospital in our area and they ran tests. Other then his bloodwork which showed high choloesteral the ct.scan came out as unremarkable. Symptoms never got worste but they kept him for observation. He called me to say that he had a stroke. I came home from Florida and went to the hospital very confussed since, all tests came out fine, I wanted to know how they diagnosed his stroke. The nurse that I asked was very mixed up because she didn't even realize he was in their for a stroke, it said it NO WHERE on his chart. She came in and went over the chart with us.
Finally, comes the MRI, then the next day being released. Not one mention of a stroke on his release forms. No restrictions checked off, and he was told he could go back to work immediatly. We both went the next day to work on a movie, and he was absolutly fine. He still had some numbness and tingling, but not enough to ever effect his walking or moving whatsoever. Infact he felt no different from when had had gone to the hospital in the first place.
So the day after that I wanted to pick up his medical records from the hospital, him and I went to do that and were told we could only have some of them, the other stuff would be faxed to our family Doctor. Why wouldn't we get to see all of them?
The ones we did get said a lot of medical terminology, but each said the same thing at the bottom, unremarkable findings. Well, one did note plaque build up but other then that ended the same way.
His hand started to feel more tingling/numb (only his hand). I called our Doctor explained the whole thing, the nurse said the paper work she had at that point did not mention a stroke. But would press the hospital for a final report to be faxed to them before our afternoon appointment.
When we got to the Doctor he said that my husband did have a stroke and should have been on bedrest for two weeks, not driving or back to work. I honestly felt too shocked at the moment to ask where on the Medical test results indicated a stroke, but see the Doctor was reading the final report that had come earlier that afternoon.
I know little about strokes, but thought at minimal, he would have had a headache, blurred vision or something, not just tingling/numbness to the point that it didn't even effect him. For crying outloud, he was certainly able to be intimate w/ me upon his release from the hospital. Wouldn't a stroke effect everything?
I guess I wonder, which I will ask the Doctor on Tuesday at our follow up visit, how they determined he had a stroke. I'm just asking anyone here if they have ever heard of a full blown stroke (not a TIA because they symptoms disapear immediatly) ONLY effecting you to the point of numbness/tingling, and not other symptoms.
Any good thoughts or advice you could send my way would be appreciated.
Thanks for listening.
