I have planned a family reunion for December, and I would like to spread some "Disney Magic" and surprise family members (especially the young ones) by decorating the rooms for the holidays. I am hoping I can get some help in accomplishing my "Secret Santa" mission...

I would love to hear your story about how you decorated or are planning to decorate your room. I would like to find out which is the best way to get the decorations there (mail them or buy them from a local store near Disney), what type of decorations, stockings and lights you used, and if anyone has set up an artificial tree.

I hope everyone is in the holiday spirit and is willing to share their stories, photos, tips, suggestions and ideas.

Thanks in advance, and Happy Holidays Everyone!!

We drive, so we carry them with us. We bring a small, prelite Christmas tree (3-4'), our Disney ornaments, a small wreath (actually three small wreaths tied together with tie wraps to make a hidden Mickey) and over-the-door wreath hanger for the front door, lights to wrap around the windows (plus tape to attach them), more lights for the balcony (plus an extension cord to plug them in - we wrap them around the balcony and don't tape or tack them). I bring the stockings and hangers to put them up on the edge of the dresser or kitchen counter. I carried the Christmas presents in a separate suitcase and put them out after my son was asleep. He's a very deep sleeper and I didn't wake him.

Plus we have our Santa Mickey hats, Reindeer Mickey head band, Holiday t-shirts/sweatshirts.

We brought several strings of lights and a decorated tree for the Polynesian last year. We had gifts for the kids and we let them open some each day. We ran the string of lights outside the window towards the lagoon. The tree was in the corner by the window. It was a wonderful time and the mood was perfect.

I really like the idae about the wreath. We'll do that next time.

We went last dec for 2 weeks before christmas, BUT still decorated so as to enjoy the decorations leading up to the holidays. We actually had people ask, WHY are you decorated? And we said for X-mas! OH? We were at the Poly. We didn't do lights, but went to the Target, (we flew, rental car) and got garland for the balcony and streamed it throughout the room. and got a 3 foot tree with lights and decorations. Big red bows for the balcony's and front door. Also jingle bells with bow for door handle which someone stole (twice). We were in Aroerotaora(sp?) 3rd floor, which faced the monorail, and we would be on the monorail and people would be pointing to our room decorations. Was really fun. Only took a few minutes, and it really put you in the spirit. On check out, the bell man made a comment that the bellman all would talk about our room being decorated first. They got a kick out of it. Of course we took everything down and got rid of tape etc... didn't want to leave a mess for mousekeeping. :yo-yo:

It can really add to your trip. I regularly decorate now for any occassion. We decorated for halloween, birthdays, easter! Sign on door, (helps to find room easier ;) ). Those window sticky things, somethings that hangs in room, or off balcony. Use your imagination. Takes about 5 to 10 minutes. Have your family leave and when they come back surprise! :earseek: They will be thrilled.

you can also order a tree from the disney florist. They will bring it to your room all ready decorated and litl up which would be a nice surprise for your family. I have never done this but recently read of someone elses post who had. They said they were very happy with the whole experience.

Thank you all so much for sharing your decorating plans! I am so impressed !
I was just thinking simply about some lights and maybe a tree, I didn't even think about wreaths, window clings, stockings, Big red bows, or the Disney Florist... I really enjoyed reading all your posts, and I also liked the idea of forming a Mickey shaped wreath, my relatives will really love that! Thank you all so much for helping me decide what I will need to complete my decorating project. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season !

About four years ago we spent Christmas at the Fort Wilderness Cabins. I shipped down ornaments, christmas lights for the windows (don't forget extension cords), presents, candles and other assorted christmas stuff. All in all I shipped about 6-8 boxes.

One of the neatest things that I did was to line the steps to the cabin and the driveway with luminaries. If you will be somewhere with a patio or balcony you could do this but be careful of fire. I think they have luminaries that you can buy that are electric, too.

I bought a wreath down there to ensure that we had the smell of christmas as well. I used the wreath as the table centerpiece and placed some of the ornaments on it and candles in the middle. The table in the cabins is nice sized though (as I recall).

I hope that you enjoy your trip. Disney during Christmas is magical!
