Please remind me: are love bugs worse in the beginning of September, or the end?

Sometime in October I'll be looking to make a reservation at 11-months for AKV next September. My impression is that AKV is particularly susceptible to love bugs, and I was hoping to limit our risk. I know they typically peak during a 2-week period in September. Is this usually at the beginning of the month, or the end?

I remember when I checked into AKV on 9/14/2006, the Love Bugs were unbelievably bad. I was afraid to open my door to the balcony because they were so thick, one or two might fly in. After a couple days, I transferred over to BCV for a week, and they were just as bad there-

So if there's a two week window when they're worst, it's probably in the middle of the month or the latter part.

I'm not positive, but I can tell you there were NO love bugs around the first week of September, so I'm leaning toward the latter part of the month.

Love bug visits vary each year depending on the amount of rainfall that year and the temperature. Not sure about FL but here in MS they just peaked now which is a little late for us. Not sure how you would find out other than to call before your stay but then it would be too late to change your reservations too if that was your intent. We had to leave windows and doors open after Hurricane Katrina (no electricity) and we found love bugs for weeks after in places I didn't know they could get into!! You get used to it. Just make sure you clean them off your car or they will take the paint off! Seriously!!!

We just got back from a 9/11 to 9/18 trip and didnt see hardly any lovebugs at all .. maybe a dozen the whole week! the same last year (mid-Sept). Seems hard to predict

Having been at the very beginning of sept. and the very end, our experience has been that the love bugs were worse at the end. We didn't even see any at the beginning of the month. BTW, I am a bug-o-phobe but for some reason, they really don't bother me!

I think we may just go in October to be safe. They don't disgust me or anything, but they can prevent enjoyment of the balcony (which is one of the main amenities of AKV for us).

I forgot to mention that I was at WDW the same week in 2007, and hardly saw any by comparison. So I definitely agree with mjl1969-it's hard to predict how bad they'll be.

today at AKLV!!! I mean this morning I could eat breakfast out on the balcony overlooking the pool! Now they are everywhere here which sucks!!! We have 4 more resort days to go and my kids are bug-phobic!!!:scared1:

Oh no! Sorry to hear it. Maybe not even October is safe.

LOL - In the Magical Express line at the Contemporary yesterday, a very sweet lady picked 2 of them out of my hair.........ewwwwwww

I don't even want to know what they were doing

I've been told by several WDW CM's that Love-bugs are worse in Late May and Late Sept-Oct. We usually travel in October (mid to late) and have never had a problem with Love bugs then. I would suggest Late Sept and early October would be the worst from my trip experience. They are a NIGHTMARE..UGH!

We were in WDW this past weekend, Sept. 25 to 28th. We were at the BCV and AKV and saw very very few love bugs.

Bobbi:goodvibes

We've only ever seen them the last week and a half of Sept. (We usually go the last 2 weeks in Sept. or the first 2 in Oct.) Some years they've been worse than others. I started seeing just a couple here and there over the weekend. Today, I saw a bunch toward the end of our AK visit (around noon). Maybe it's just me, but I do think they like AK best. ;) We didn't see many at all at the BW or at Epcot this evening. Hopefully they won't get worse over the next few days.
