I live in a suburb and often come in to town to check out the wonderful museums, Museum of Science and Industry is great, the Adler Planetarium, Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium are all on a 'campus' that is directly across from Soldiers Field, where we've gone in to take a 'free tour'
About Navy Pier, its wonderful in warm weather, or if there is something public going on (right now its the Flower and Garden Show) but the rides arent going, the Children's museum is geared for younger (maybe 2nd and younger) kids... they do have an IMAX Theatre that can be great... I thought there were only fireworks on special weekends
Transportation can be expensive, I think i took a taxi for $25 to the Science and Industry (great trains, planes, and a mock coal ride, a submarine, and the Apollo Space program, with the lunar and capsule there)
The metro mix link i gave you you can search golf... someone on the Dis gave me a link for my dad to golf, that is country wide. . . I can search.. here it is..
