Please help newbie -- Holding account?

I hope I put this on the right DVC forum --

After renting several times from the DISboards rent forum, we finally purchased a small amount of resale DVC points this year. We planned our first trip and of course everything fell apart and we had to cancel at the last minute. I am glad we didn't totally lose the points, but now I am confused about points in a holding account.
I read on the DVC site all the rules about booking within 60 days, and using before the end of our use year, etc. But we are not going to be able to use them in time (we have a March use year). Can I rent them to anyone else? Is it possible to transfer points from a holding account to someone else's account? I was hoping to rent them here on the DIS, but I am unsure if it is "legal" with holding points and how I should go about it.
By the way, we have 48 points in holding, and 32 that I will need to bank by the end of October, since we probably won't make it back to WDW until next year.
So much for an exciting first year in DVC! Please help! Thank you!

Holding points must be used for a trip that ends before the end of your use year and you can reserve only 60 days or less before date of arrival. They cannot be transfered. You can rent (and attempt to do so on this site) by using the points to make a reservation in the renter's name.

Thanks for your quick response! I'm feeling so dumb right now. So I cannot transfer the points to another DVCer to use them in their account. I have to find a renter that needs exactly 48 (or less) points for a reservation within 60 days (and before March 1), and then I make the reservation, but I put their name on it. Am I understanding it? It sounds like there is a very slim chance that I will find someone with that criteria. We may be out 48 points in our first year of DVC.

I am not trying to say pp gave you wrong information on this, I very well could be who is wrong here, but I believe you can transfer Holding Points to another DVC member if they are points from your CURRENT USE YEAR allotment. I think only Reservation Points cannot be transferred ( your Holding Points are not Reservation Points are they? meaning the reservation you first made with them was for a non-DVC resort stay).

"60 day or less" stipulation means the resevation you would make using
Holding Points can only be made
60 days or less before the check-in date wanted.

So if someone wanted to
rent your Holding Points for a reservation that begins on Feb 26 2009
earliest date you could call MS would be on Dec 29 2008 to make that reservation. The very last date the Holding Points could be used would be Feb 28 2009.

Yes that's what I thought too, that they would retain the holding status, etc.

Wow, thanks to all of you for helping to explain this. I don't feel quite so bad about being confused -- I think Member Services might even be confused.

5forDiz, these are not reservation points. They are from my current use year allotment (yeesh, my first and only allotment and already causing problems).

So I guess my next step is to post an ad over on the rent board and hope somebody needs 48 points to reserve within 60 days and before Feb. 28. Right? Any advice? This is so scary!
