I am in desperate need of advice ... I had planned a surprise 5th anniversary trip for myself and DH, leaving this Tuesday the 25th. Club level at aKL, adr's at Jiko, Flying Fish, California Grill, tickets to La Nouba. DH splits his time between Ireland and Canada ... he owns a restaurant in Ireland and I live in Ontario full-time with my two teenagers. He's here as much as he possibly can be, but the times apart are hard. My plan was to meet him at the airport on Monday, then tell him that we were leaving the next morning. The airport hotel is booked, the airline tickets are refundable for $150 but non-transferable.
He got in touch with me today to tell me that his restaurant general manager likely has meningitis ... she is in hospital having brain scan and lumbar puncture, no results yet. It doesn't look like he will be able to leave on Monday, though he will let me know for sure in the morning when more information is available.
This week is really the only week that we can do a trip until the fall. I have the week booked off and won't be able to get the shifts back. Do I go without him, either alone or possibly with a friend (if I can find anyone at this late date) or switch the dates to later in the year? I took both my kids in august, I'd love to take them again but next week is exam week for one and I could never take the other without her.
My head is spinning ... I know my problem is small compared to what his manager is going through but it is still so disappointing ... I worked so hard to plan this trip and keep it secret. I'm not sure if I could do a solo trip, but maybe that could be the answer ... please, if anyone has any advice I'd love to hear it ... if not, thanks for even reading. I needed to tell this story to people who understand, I've been on the site every day for the past month.
