We are taking our 3 boys ~14,11 and 5 out to Las Vegas and then to Hollywood, etc for a trip this summer. It is all of ours first time there and we want to see all the must see things there is...well, as much as we can. Please help with any and all recommendations. Thanks so much!

Well there is plenty to see and do in Las Vegas. They have the Coca Cola store, the M&M store. NYNY has the Roller Coaster. The Stratasphere has rides as well. If you are brave. You can check them out online. There is a cost to ride to the top, plus the rides.

You didnt say if you had a car. The bus called the Duece you can ride for 7 dollars for 24 hrs. It can take you down to the old part of Vegas, Freemont st. they have a zipline there.

The Casinos have the nightly shows outside. There is shopping everywhere. Also near the M&M store there is a gaming area for kids as well.

Make sure you bring good walking shoes. Things may look close but they really are not. If you are going in the summer make sure to say dehydrated. If you have other questions ask away. I will be there in may myself.

There are a few coasters/ride and the Circus Circus Adventuerdome with a small amusment park inside. Freemont St. the older, classic area, has a light show on the ceiling after dark. You can see the lions in MGM, the tigers in Mirage , and a show in the forum shop of Ceasars.

A good pool would be a plus, Mandalay Bay and MGM have the best for playing at.

Spend a day at the Grand Canyon a day tip from LV. Total time in vegas 2 or 3 days.

Hollywood will take about 1/2 a day, there are some good tours, or you can just walk around in a couple hours.

Thank you to those that have replied. I am checking out what has been posted. Sooo excited for this trip. Just wish we had a month to take it all in. Guess I should give more details. We will be taking a car. We are driving from Illinois to Vegas to stay with some friends. We will stop for a day in Rocky Mountain National Park on our way there. Then arrive in Vegas around 6 or so at night with 2 full days for taking in Vegas (going to see if we can squeeze in one more..think we will need it?). Then they are going to California with us. We will arrive in Hollywood first to sight see...thinking walk of fame, wax museum, beverly willshire hotel, see hollywood sign, etc. Then Universal Studios for a day, the next day is open but I would LOVE to go see a taping of Ellen if I can, then Disneyland for a day (also thinking would be a good idea to try and squeeze in another day for California but not sure if we can). From there we will head home stopping at the Grand Canyon for a day. Does all of this sound doable? The only things I have for Vegas right now are: would like to see the knights dinner show (is this worth it for the extreme price?), looking around in all the different hotels, of course the tigers, dophins, etc, seeing the Bellagio fountains at day and night, riding some rides...the NYNY coaster and such, the M&M store, freemont street, possibly the Hoover Dam (is it worth it to take out most of a day to do this or save for some other time?) Thanks SOO much for any and all advice. I REALLY appreciate it!!!

We just got back. Kids age 10 and 7. They loved the Hoover Dam. If you are doing the Hoover Dam Tour - get there when they open. Otherwise your wait could be up to 2 hours to go on the tour. Of course, you can be hanging out on the dam and taking pictures etc. They don't sell the tour online unfortunately.

Have fun!

For Vegas 2 days with one spent going to Hoover Dam is fine. Going to Hoover Dam is about a 6 hours day trip, but if you leave after breakfast that leaves plenty of afternoon to walk around Vegas.

A day at the GC is alright when you don't plan to do a big hike down into the canyon but only stop at sites along the rim.

Like I said Hollywood just half a day. If it's a weekend you may be able to do the Ellen show the same day.

At Disneyland ideally you want 4 days so adding just 1 for DCA is important if you don't do the Ellen show and can get three days in that would be better.

Another vote here for Hoover Dam. We went a few years ago. Our boys were 8 & 11.5 at the time. We were driving from Vegas to Sedona, AZ and it was a great way to break up the long drive.
It must have had an effect on my older ds; 2 yrs later in 7th grade he could choose any topic to research & present a PP slide show. He chose hydroelectric power. His graphics were awesome, complete with spinning turbine, etc. Most of what he already knew was from our visit to Hoover Dam. It's really amazing to see. :thumbsup2

As others have said there are plenty of cool shops and coasters all along the strip. The last time my wife and I were there we took the monorail up and down the strip. I know that you said you are bringing a vehicle but it may be easier to park in one area and ride the rail up and down. Also, the Freemont experience can be cool:thumbsup2

Hollywood has the Disney Studio Store and Soda Fountain right across from the Grauman's Chinese Theater. The store is mostly a small-format Disney store with some collectibles, but the ice cream is delish! Maybe a nice stop away from the Hollywood Blvd. crowds.
