OK, there's a lot of information here- not that that's a bad thing- but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Could someone just tell a first-timer such as myself the best place to get a deal on the 7 day Western Caribbean cruise for 2 adults in August? What would be the cheapest way to book reservations? I've done a lot of searching & still haven't been satisifed with what I've found. We don't even care what kind of room we are in- it could be a level 11 or 12 for all we care.

Also, what do you recommend as far as transportation from the airport to the dock? A transfer? If so, any deals to be had there?

I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but this takes care of it for now. Can't plan any further until I know that we're going for sure!!

Any info that helps would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

I booked directly through Disney Cruise line. I called, and they helped me find dates. However, since I am a school teacher, I was limited as to WHEN I could actually go. Call them and be honest. Ask the price of different sailings. Then, after you have found a week that works for you, if this is your first Disney cruise, ask for code REF. This will give you a $50.00 onboard credit for a 7 day cruise. Actually, I think if yiou could go in September, there is a big difference in the price. Just get them to keep trying. Also, the 1-800 # for DCL is 960-8875. Goog Luck!:bounce:

I am limited to the week of August 3-10th. I've already got a travel agent who quoted me a price $300 dollars less than through Disney directly. Last week, Yahoo Travel was offering it for $1484 per person, but that has since gone up. I'm still looking into all options, including people with DVC who I can possibly rent points from.

Thanks for trying to help me though.

I used www.icruise.com when I took my Disney Cruise last year and got a great deal on it...I just checked and they have a category 11 for 1311.00 and a category 12 for 1216.00....I do not know if those prices are good for you or not...I am going again this September and got a Category 11 for 647.00...I go during hurricane season to get the cheapest rate I can get...hope this helps...let me know.

I used www.icruise.com last year for my Disney cruise and got a great rate...I just checked the rates for your dates and the Cat. 12 was 1216.00 and the Cat. 11 was 1311.00....those rates seem high to me but I go in Sept. when the rates go down...was able to get Cat. 11 for 9-28-02 for 647.00 and that was even cheaper than last year when we went...I do not care where I sleep as long as I am on that ship when it leaves...love DCL...hope this helps...let me know

Check Dreams Unlimited and Cruise.com. I booked my 5/11 cruise with Cruise.com because they had the best rates for me. Got to their website and use online booking to get that price, and then call them. They can usually beat their best price on line by quite a bit when you call. I just checked for the week you mentioned, and online it is 1390 pp for a cat 11...

Thanks,
Jennifer

Colins mom- thanks for the tip! We jumped on that iCruise deal! My wife & I and a buddy are going to do a category 11 for those dates- we paid the deposit, and we're all set!

Now we just have to find out if the price includes transfer from the airport. Speaking of that, does anyone know how they handle transfers? What airport do you have to fly to (I assume Orlando), and what time do you have to be at the airport to make it to Port Canaveral on time??

Any "need to know" info at this stage in the game?

Hi. Welcome to the DIS cruise boards. You've found a knowledgeable and enthusiastic community that will love to help you with your questions.

But the best way to start is to go to EntropyM's web site (hometown.aol.com/entropym) and download his "Magical Disney Cruise Guide". This is the most comprehensive compilation of unbiased DCL information in a single document. It's available in HTML, Microsoft Word, and plain ASCII text. We downloaded it and read it cover-to-cover. This is a great way to answer the questions you don't even know you have.

I also have a web site with a fair amount of useful reference material:

www.dcltribute.com

Barb and Tony, who post on this board as Inkkognito and atigeg also have a web site with a wealth of useful reference material:

www.castawayclub.com

Between Entropy's guide and these two web sites, you'll have a lot of your questions answered and will come up with more focused questions. This board is the place for them. We can usually help you out.

Congratulations MtDewBuzz...you will have the vacation of a lifetime...I am so excited for you...the book that Dave is talking about is great and you really should download that...I carried it on my first cruise with me and it was very helpful...the cost of the cruise does not include your transfers and you will have to pay for those seperately...we did the Disney transfers the first cruise and are going with Happy Limo this time...just stay on this board and you will find out everything you need to know and by the time you get on that ship you will feel like an old timer...once again I am tickled to death for you...Colins Mom

We used crucon.com and got the best rate at the time that I could find. My rate for the 7 night western on June 8th was better than most peoples rebooking rates....................
