Please help me pick a television! <m>

I've worked in the AV industry for around 17 years, until my unfortunate layoff a month ago.

Currently, I would take the Samsung over the Sony 100 times out of 100. The Samsung you've listed is a better set at the outset, but should anything go wrong down the road, Samsung's customer service will far outshine Sony's these days.

I would also go with the samsung. It has more HDMI inputs and a higher resolution, but that may not be that noticable at that size. Ask the sales rep if the HDMI inputs are 1.3 HDMI for both the sony and samsung one.

We have the 46 inch version of your first choice and I must say that we absolutely love it! The quality of the picture is awesome, it's very user friendly, and Consumer Reports rated it at the top. With that said, we enjoy watching movies and playing games so we have all the toys to make sure we get the best picture possible - blu ray, PS3, HD cable, HDMI cables, etc. If those things don't matter as much to you and it's mainly for watching tv, then get the Sony. If you're going to spend a fair amount of time with it on and enjoy movies and games, spend the extra and get the Samsung.

Also, we got ours at Sam's Club for considerably less than what Best Buy was offering it for on sale. Don't know if that is a possibility for you or not, but something to check out.

We have to get the 32" (entertainment center), but we can get it for $150 less than BB sale price. We're also getting a blu ray DVD player, have HD cable, and it's our Wii television (actually our main television). Thanks - I think I'll go with the Samsung!
