Where do you buy clothes for tweens?

Call me old fashioned, but I don't want her midriff or cleavage showing!

I hear ya!!! My dd is almost 13 and is 5'5" tall...has always been tall. So, she wears jr and misses sized clothing and has for awhile now. I've had pretty decent luck getting the basics at JC Penny. Old Navy does a pretty decent job of keeping it on the more discreet side for the girls. Even Filenes, or Macy's I guess it is now, has had some less adult styles for her. But stay away from Ltd2...she'll look like she just got off Washington St, and the quality isn't great for the immense price tag!!

I'm 12, and some of the places I buy my clothes are:
Old Navy
La Senza Girl
Siblings
Garage Clothing
Urban Behavior

Aeropostale and American Eagle has cute stuff that's trendy and a pretty far cry from streetwalker.

Two have mine have already been stated but are worth repeating:

Old Navy :thumbsup2
Justice for Girls
Lands End
LL Bean

I also found some decent stuff at my Target this spring. Kind of surprised but definitely disappointed this season with Kohls. I usually get such good stuff there. :confused3

I think it takes extra effort these days for sure!

My DD 12 wears a lot of polo shirts. I was shocked the first time we went to AE etc. and saw how tight they were on a 12 undeveloped 12yo and are meant for much older girls! Dd won't wear girl shorts. She wears boys or capris or BB shorts. Everything has to be l-o-n-g.
I am sure it is hard to dress a girl modestly who is into the girly clothes as so much of it is too tight, too short, too lowcut etc. As I said, it takes effort...
Good luck!

It can be tough, I will say that! During the summer DD's been wearing mostly cute t-shirts and tanks. Most of these came from Aeropostle or Limited Two. She won't wear polos because she has to wear a uniform during the schoool year which consists of polos. We've also found cute tanks at Old Navy and Target.

Thanks for the help. :)

I'm going to let her have a gander at Old Navy's site. :sunny: We'll move on from there.

My 13yo's clothes are from Plato's Closet. She wears tshirts with cute sayings most of the time. I tell you, though, her legs are currently quite LOOOONG so her shorts look really short! Especially her elastic-waist shorts for dance. I don't mind too much right now (going into 9th grade) if she has midriff peeking (when she lifts her arms) but I don't like bare-midriff tops or tube tops.

I try to very carefully weigh which clothes to battle about, and which to just shrug and allow. I am lucky that she doesn't care to push the envelope ya know! She does have cleavage and I suppose it shows a tad in some vneck tops, but not much and not most tops.

I hate clothes. :lmao: DD COULD wear the clothes I wish I could wear, but I don't want her to, lol.

Old Navy is a good choice.. When my DD14 was in that stage I got alot of her clothes at Limited Too.. But they can be quite pricey.. Old Navy was her second choice

Those were the first two stores that came to my mind as well.

Also - Kaufmanns/Macy's, Boscov's, Bon Ton are excellent.

The key is to hit the sales at the stores - they *all* have fantastic sales. :thumbsup2

Old Navy
Aeropostale
Children's Place
Gap Kids
Macy's
Penneys
Sears
Target

I have seen "normal" clothes for girls at all of these stores. The key is to get clothes that fit. T-Shirts that are way to tight or pants that are the same way make the kids look trashy.
