Please help me feel excited about AKL during Christmas season.

They did mention the AKV construction to us while we were there in December, but I saw no evidence of it. I think it's far enough away from the main hotel that it's not very disruptive. They seem to be done with any work that was going on in the main building so that shouldn't be an issue for you.

We've stayed here around Christmas twice now and love it! They have a ton of kids activities and characters in the lobby. My daughter made a couple of Christmas ornaments there, saw Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Pluto in their Christmas finery, decorated gingerbread cookies. And we don't spend a whole lot of time at the resort, so that says a lot.

I was looking into staying this coming holidays at the AKL, but saw that it will be under construction in 2008-09. Just something to think about!

That's the Kidani Village that they'll be doing construction on. I saw construction cranes during our stay in December but they were on the other side of the Lodge (we stayed on the Zebra trail) and heard no noise whatsoever. :thumbsup2

We stayed at AKL after a few days at ASMu this past December. I told my wife I was thankful the background music at AKL was still the normal African-style soundtrack we've heard there in the past. While at ASMu I was getting sick of Christmas music.

Also standard view might not be too bad. We had standard but was upgraded to savannah. Luckily our room was in the first grouping off the lobby. While going to the laundry room one night I realized some of those rooms out there are a haul. Not positive, but in looking at a layout of the resort it would seem for the most part standard rooms are closer to the lobby.

We saw much more of the animals at the "public" viewing areas than from our room. Not too many places in the world where you would hear your son say "Daddy, can I swim over there and see that giraffe closer?" The giraffe almost seemed to be peeking into the pool area.

We will be at AKL around the same dates and are doing a standard view, I figured we can go to the public veiwing areas anyhow to see the animals. Our room will be mainly for sleep. ;)
