Our last plan was canceled by the supplier (long story), knew it was too good to be true

To figure out a new plan, I need a better idea of food costs. We will be there 6.5 days. We will be feeding basically 3 adults and 1 (8) child. Medium eaters. moderate food.

I need help, I'm so frustrated:crazy2:

It's hard to say. There is one poster on this forum who expects to feed a family of six (youngest child 4) for less than $40 per day. When I would come here on vacation, my wife and I would figure about $125 per day for the two of us.

However, I would suggest you go to Allearsnet menu section for pricing. Just remember to add 6.5% to all quoted prices for sales tax and about 25% at table service/buffets to cover both tax and tip.

I agree that estimates vary greatly. Last trip, the 3 of us ate for $20/person/day. The trip before that it was just under $17/person/day. But others post that they spend $50 or more/person/day. Personally, I couldn't imagine spending that much but that's just our frugal-mindedness and personal preferences. For example, we prefer to eat breakfast in our room. Others prefer to do a character meal every morning, so we spend less than $2/person and they spend closer to $20/person. Add that up over a week and you can see how widely people's spending can range just on breakfast. Check the menus and think about what and how your crew likes to eat.

You must decide for yourself using the menus as posted above. No one knows your family's eating habits - likes/dislikes like you do. I never realized how much more DH and I spend on food than the average traveler, until I read the post these boards. For the two of us we budget $125-150 per day. But...we like three sit down meals a day, and D will always have wine with dinner. Our next trip is in October and we have booked a package with the dining option. It will definitely be worth it for us.

When are you going? If you are staying on-site, could you switch to the new special they are running where you get the free dining plan?

My last couple of trips, I stayed offsite in a condo (my sis and I). I spent like $12-15/day on food because we ate most breakfasts and dinners either in the condo or at offsite inexpensive places. We are headed down in December and staying onsite at Pop. My plan is to keep it to an avg of $25/day by bringing breakfast & snack stuff w/ us. I'm not much into the big sit-down meals, so this should be pretty easy to do.

We just returned from Disney. We were very careful with our budget. We ate cereal in our room (took on plane) and bought half galoons of milk for 2.95 at gift shop at all star sports which we kept in collapsable cooler. For lunch we ate at the window service. Most meals were $6-7 for sandwich and fries (our favorite place was Pecos Bills at Magic Kingdom, grilled mushrooms, and onions on burger bar) Kids meals were $4. Drinks $2-3 but we usually asked for cups of ice water (free). Kids wanted to do too much to spend time waiting for sit down meals. Ice creams $2.50-3 and jumbo pretzels $3. All meals were under $30 but most we split and got by with $23.

The food court at all stars had a special each night for about $7 and breakfast platters were $6. Don't know if hotel info will compare to yours but it might help someone else.

We brought much more money than we needed. It just depends what you find more important your time to hit the parks or waiting for sit down meals. I did see one of the buffets at magic kingdom was $25 (I couldn't eat enough to make that worth while).
